Zoo Adventure during Your Newquay Holidays

When you are on your Newquay holidays, there will never be a dull moment in your vacation. There are countless activities in store for your whole family. While staying in your Cornwall holiday cottages, you can start planning your vacation. Since the accommodations are very accessible to major tourist spots, you do not have to worry about getting around the place. One of the highlights of your Newquay holidays is when you visit the Newquay zoo. Very accessible from your Cornwall holiday cottages, you can take any mode of transportation you wish. Here are some important details about your next destination.

Overview of the Zoo

While you are staying in your Cornwall holiday cottages, you can get a closer encounter with over 130 species. During your Newquay holidays, find time to visit the Newquay zoo. The place is one of the most famous destinations of tourists. Every year millions of people flock to the place to get the rare chance of seeing the different animals in action. Whether you are looking for domesticated animals or with wildlife, the zoo is just right for you. Children and animal lovers love the exciting experience with the creatures. So if you are on your Newquay holidays, do not miss the chance to see and feel the adventure yourself. Tag your whole family and friends and make your vacation a bonding moment with animals. When you come back at your Cornwall holiday cottages, you will have better appreciation of nature.

Attractions

From its first opening in 1969, the Newquay zoo has become the favourite destination of visitors looking for an extreme relaxation. Since it houses over 130 species of animals, your Newquay holidays will never be complete without seeing their wide collection of animals coming from all parts of the world. The African Lion, Arrow poison dart frogs, ural owl, Visayan spotted deer and the white-naped crane. You name an animal and the zoo has it. In 2010, the site even welcomed several new babies as addition to their animals. You will see the baby black wildebeest, the Philippine spotted deer, Capybara and the fishing cats. Since the management keeps on adding animals more in the zoo, the entrance fee is worth all the learning and fun you will get.

Adoption Program

Before you go back to your Cornwall holiday cottages, you might even want to participate in their animal conservation program. You can do it by adopting an animal while you are on your Newquay holidays. For a minimum donation, you can help save the animals. The donation comes with one free visit to Newquay zoo, a name plaque near your chosen animal for one year, a certificate, one year subscription to the newsletter and a photograph of your favourite animal.

Would Boracay be more boring if they decide to do this?

They can't ban sex-on-the-beach! That's my favorite drink!
http://ph.news.yahoo.com/afp/20110106/tls-lifestyle-philippines-tourism-sex-aeafa1b.html

Doing such thing in beach may serve a public scandal, be aware that there are lots of children that's enjoying things for being in Boracay, strictly implementing such rules may preserve an image for what others tend to go there along with whole family.

People are their for enjoyment, those kind of views may ruin due to some scandals.

Good luck

Hotel In Philippines

what are the construction materials used in hotel in Japan and the Philippines?

The basic contruction materials used in hotel pls..
for the tropical countries and the Japan style of making hotel to bulid the building very strong.
Thank you so much!

I suppose most of big buildings in any country are constructed with steel-frame and ferroconcrete (reinforced concrete) as basic materials.
Strength of those constructions doesn't always depend on kind of materials (though seismically isolated structure uses particular dumper). It rather depends on structural design and calculation: for example, amount of iron rods and diameter of pillar.
In Japan those are regulated by laws.

Resorts Bohol Philippines

resorts bohol philippines"resorts bohol philippines"
what's the most affordable resort/tour package in Panglao bohol philippines? preferable 3Days 2 nights. thanks?

The cheapest package will be one that you arrange yourself!

Here is one possible idea:

This is where I plan to stay next time
http://www.flowergarden-resort.com/Mainframe-E.htm
It is not by the sea but is behind a resort that is. It has a short walkway to Alona beach so you can easily enjoy the beach. It has a swimming pool. It costs P1600 per night for a 2 bedroom cottage, good for 3.

I have twice used Albert Odtohan of the business, Made Travel, for touring Bohol. You can see his business card here
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v490/sibbick1/made.jpg
Last time I toured with him in September, he charged P2500 for our group of 4. We were staying at the Bohol Bee Farm so our tour started and finished there. Your price will depend on your negotiation skills. Entrance fees are extra. Allow a bit over P100 per person for those.

Transfer to Alona beach from the pier or the airport costs about P500 in a private van

So, if you were to take this do it yourself basic package, your approximate cost will be
- P1000 for transfers
- P3200 for accommodation
- P2900 (approx) for a day tour, with entrance fees
--------------------
- P7100 (about usd $160), good for 3

Booking it will be as simple as contacting Albert and contacting the Flower garden Resort. You could probably have Albert meet you at the pier or the airport too.

Renowned Manila Hotels

When producers stage huge performances in our country via world tours for chart-topping foreign artists, may they be the American balladeers, British rockers, or Asian pop bands; they only put their talents to stay only on the most expensive suites of the most luxurious 5-star hotels in Manila, Philippines.

Other famous productions, especially from the theatrical scene, are also staged within the large halls of these top class hotels. Celebrity & show business parties & get-togethers of people from the corporate world are also assembled in the lobbies of these popular embodiments of quality & elegance.

This year, many famous acts have been and will be staged on the grounds of Manila. This includes the performances of Grammy winners Justin Bieber & Maroon 5, and the theatrical show entitled Varekai of Hoopla, Inc. The performances of these acts greatly improve the image that this country projects to the world, and that this eventually helps in promoting sold out sales on each production.

This has been the trend in the country for several years already. Many world-wide events have been orchestrated & hosted under the roofs of well renowned Manila hotels. Functions for international organizations are catered well by these 5-star establishments. Albeit the still on-going underestimation of many foreign guests to quality Filipino service, this kind of impression is much more than often disproved by the over-all success of the events held on the premises of the city.

With this fact in motion, anyone can see that the city is purposely, but slowly, converting itself into a major entertainment hub of the country. With the sudden sprout of high-end casinos and top-rated hotels Manila tempts more guests to come and further enjoy & mingle their selves out into its busy streets & pubs! And in an effort to bring the level of the city into a higher notch, each Manila hotel keep on improving their facilities & amenities to ensure that they will provide only the best of the services to their clients.

Quality planning & careful consideration for a more comfortable suite, more engaging amenities, more enticing facilities, & more lustrous theme for each hotel in Manila spells the reputation & respect they get from their VIP clients.

And to further capture more of goal they seek, the quality of service rendered by these top hotels to the celebrities is also fairly given to regular guests, thus engraving to these regulars' mind that they get the treats & pampers only those on the limelight can afford to have! Simply put, whatever Justin Bieber sleeps at, you can be able to sleep at, too; or whatever Bruno Mars may swim at in the future, you'll swim out today as well.

I am planning on going to Mactan and possibly staying at the Plantation Bay resort there in Sept, coming from east coast USA.
Any recomendations as far as airlines, other hotels or resorts or possibly a house rental. If I leave there after 21 days on passport, how long before I can return and get another 21days? If I leave there and go to Australia, do I need a visa or will the American passport do? Any Island hoping ferries/boats you recommend from Cebu?

i never been there.. but i heard its really a good place.. try this sites:

5 Fun-Filled Ways to Enjoy Boracay Island with Your Friends

Face it: a summer vacation is never complete without a trip to the beach, much more if it's not with your friends. And there's no better place to go this season but to the renowned tropical destination in the Philippines: Boracay Island. So pack your bags and take your bosom buddies with you, as any trip to this beautiful isle is bound to be an unforgettable holiday.

If you think the pristine white sand beaches of Boracay are heavenly, wait till you see its neighboring landscape. An island hopping group tour aboard native outrigger sailboats called ‘paraw' is a great way to discover some of Boracay's other treasures. Some tours also cover scuba diving and snorkeling spots, so don't forget to pack your gear and take some underwater shots of you and your friends for some priceless souvenirs.

Another famous highlight of the island is the Boracay sunset. You can view this majestic scenery from a quiet beach over a couple of drinks, during happy hour at a local bar, or out in the open sea while on a paraw sunset trip. However which way, there's not an experience like it.

If your group is the adventurous type, then head on over to the Bat Cave on the northeast coast of Yapak. While there are a number of local guides to accompany you for a fee, make no mistake -- this hike is not for the faint-hearted. Fooling around won't be necessary as you are sure to have a thrilling time exploring a dangerous, steep hike inside the cave with bats, boulders, and even snakes. The excitement alone is one you'll be talking about for months.

The latest addition to the many activities on the island is the Zorb rides. Run around with the gang inside a mini pool of water within a giant orb made of transparent plastic. Need I say more?

Of course, it's not a complete vacation without a fun, heart-to-heart, and embarrassing round of Truth or Dare. This is where staying at a hotel or resort a little off the beach is an advantage. They are near the refreshing waters yet far enough from the party scene, so you're sure to have quite memorable conversations. You can check out a few Boracay resorts off the beach like Gran Prix Boracay Hideaway. These types of hotels offer relaxing accommodations as well as a little more privacy than beachfront hotels. You and your friends can even score on discounts with its promos and packages often offered during the summer vacation.

Boracay Island is Still the Greatest Vacation Getaway in the Philippines

Boracay is an island of the Philippines located approximately 315km (200 miles) south of Manila and 2km off the northwest tip of the island of Panay in the Western Visayas region. In 1990, it was voted by the BMW Tropical Beach Handbook as one of the best beaches in the world and again in 1996 by British publication TV Quick as the world's number one tropical beach. In 2007, Boracay Island topped the list of the World’s Most Popular Beach according to Yahoo! Travel.

Weather in Boracay is generally divided into two seasonal weather patterns known locally as the Amihan and Habagat seasons. In the local language, Amihan means a cool northeast wind, and Habagat means southwest wind or south-west monsoon. The Amihan season is characterized by moderate temperatures, little or no rainfall, and a prevailing wind from the east. The Habagat season is characterized by hot and humid weather, frequent heavy rainfall, and a prevailing wind from the west. Boracay is in the Amihan weather pattern from September or October to May or June and in the Habagat weather pattern for the remainder of the year.

Daytime temperatures on Boracay generally range from 25-32°C from the beginning of the Amihan season and increases to the 28-38°C range with the onset of the Habagat season. During Tropical Storm periods, temperatures can fall below 20°C.

Boracay is at its peak during the Amihan season. Boracay's main tourism area, White Beach, is on the western side of the island and is sheltered from the wind; the waters off White Beach is often glassy-smooth. On the eastern side of the island, hills on the northern and southern ends channel the wind from the east onshore towards Bulabog Beach in the central part of the island's eastern side. This makes the reef-protected waters off that beach ideal for diving boracay, windsurfing and kiteboarding/kite surfing.

A number of Boracay hotel accommodation types are scattered all over the island. Guests can choose according to location; Station 3 is where most of the cheaper lodgings are located, while Station 2 is meant for those who want to be within proximity of the bars. Station 1, meanwhile, is where you can find the more isolated Boracay beach resort accommodations, offering peace and quiet to those looking for a respite from the usual action-packed Boracay night scene. These are usually for the more upscale vacationers.

Most Boracay hotel and resorts have seasonal price levels, with high season prices generally coinciding with Amihan Season dates. Some have peak period pricing during periods of heavy tourism (usually including Christmas / New Year, Easter / Holy Week, and Chinese New Year periods).

Leisure activities available on Boracay include scuba diving, snorkeling, windsurfing, kiteboarding and beach relaxation as well as a world-class 18-hole golf course designed by Graham Marsh. In addition, Boracay offers a wide range of restaurants, bars, pubs, and nightclubs.

Both local and foreign tourists are sure to find whatever they are looking for at Boracay, especially when they log on to http://www.boracayislandhotel.com/.

Batangas Hotels And Resorts

Has anyone used TravelSmart.net for a stay in the Philippines or anywhere else for that matter?

I am trying to book a hotel/resort in the Philippines and TravelSmart.net has some hotels in an area we are interested in. The only problem is that they are difficult to get ahold of and the hotels/resorts don't have their own websites so there is no way that we can call the hotels directly. Also, I can't seem to find any of these hotels on tripadvisor (except 1 and the reviews weren't very good.)

Anyway, the hotel/resort we were interested in is called "Flamingo Lake Resort" and the address is
200 Santa Maria, 4220 Talisay
Batangas, Philippines

Has anyone stayed there or know of anyone who has? What do you think?

Also, have you used TravelSmart.net? What did you think?

No...
My Filipina wife and I venture to the Philippines every now and then. During our adventures, we just never book a hotel/resort ahead of time. In all cases we arrive the same same day and have no problem with availability. But, if in doubt, contact the hotel / resort directly for reservations.

I also tried to search for direct contact info for this resort to no avail. It appears TravelSmart.net is the only way Flamingo Lake Resort advertises (and pre-books) reservations. I will still search for you......

I searched all around to only find out that travelsmart.net is the only way to reserve for that particular resort. I trust this to
be safe. If you are still searching for a resort and/or researching Philippine info, a reputable site follows..

Have a good trip!

El Nido is very expensive, I just got back from the Philippines and loved Club Paradise in northern Palawan it's more reasonably priced. We had a cottage right on the beach too. There are other places to see as well, it's a beautiful country. I wouldn't stay in just one place. Email me if you want some more ideas...

Website Design and Development for Air Philippines Done by Web Dot Com

Web Dot Com has been chosen to do the website design and website development for Air Philippines.

Air Philippines, also called PAL Express, is a low cost domestic airline that has been awarded four times by the Consumers Union of the Philippines as the Most Outstanding Domestic Airline. Its parent company is the national flag carrier, Philippine Airlines.

Air Philippines flights cover Manila, Cebu, Davao, Caticlan, Iloilo, Zamboanga, General Santos, Cagayan de Oro, Butuan, Surigao, Ozamis, Dipolog, Tacloban, Virac, Tuguegarao, Mindoro, Puerto Princesa, Ormoc, Naga, Catarman, Calbayog and Busuanga.

The Air Philippines website landing pages have a fiesta-like theme with red and yellow as the dominant colors, balanced by a touch of blue and generous white borders on both sides. These are the colors of the Philippine flag, tying Air Philippines to its parent company. The Air Philippines logo, which is a stylized red eagle in flight against a yellow sun, is prominently displayed and adds to the vibrant look of the page.

The focal point is the flash animation showing an Air Philippines plane taking off. This gives dynamism to the web page. The rolling updates at the top of the page – clickable to get to the full stories – further entice visitors.

Right beside the flash animation is a very simple form that visitors can use to instantly book a flight or a hotel online.

At the top of the page, right below the scrolling updates, are buttons that lead to sections titled Home, Flight Info, About Us and Contact Air Philippines. Much higher on the upper right hand corner is the link to the airline’s route map.

On the lower half of the main page are buttons that link to the Flight Schedule, Rate Sheet and FAQs. There are also buttons to get to the page about corporate accounts, the sign up for free email alerts, travel tips and the Air Philippines blog.

The Featured Destination page can be reached through a very attractive photo link on the main page. As this article is being written the Featured Destination is Palawan and the photo link is of the famous Underground River.

A much smaller flash section at the bottom of the page scrolls through thumbprint photos. This serves as the link to the Picture Gallery for Air Philippines activities.

All in all, the impression one gets from the website design is fun and friendliness. The visitor cannot help but associate these adjectives with the airline that the website represents.

The Air Philippines website is a concrete testimonial to the skills of the web site developers, programmers and designers of Web Dot com. These well-trained professionals are specialists in php, mysql, JavaScript and other Internet tools and languages.

Since 1998, Web Dot Com Website Development Philippines, Inc. has been giving top quality service to local Philippine clients and international clients from the United States, the United Kingdom, Australia, Germany, the United Arab Emirates, Hong Kong, Korea and the British Virgin Islands who are outsourcing web development to Manila. Web Dot Com also provides other business process outsourcing (BPO) services such as contact center solutions.

As a web hosting provider, the company offers domain name registration along with low cost advanced web site development packages. Based on the client’s requirements, these packages may include  advanced interactive database driven web site development, advanced portal development, heavy web based programming, web application development, content management systems, good website design, graphic design and multimedia components including flash animation development, e-commerce site solutions including a shopping cart using osCommerce, web site maintenance and support, search engine optimization, search engine marketing and social media marketing.

The Philippines - Tips for Where to Go in Southern Luzon

With over 7000 islands the Philippines is a great adventure. Still a country overlooked by a lot of backpackers because of its distance away from the mainland. With its tropical white sand beaches and turquoise sea it truly is paradise.

Manila is a vibrant city and very western. You have shopping malls seemingly on every other street with all the American fast food chains. Malate is the tourist area with all the bars and restaurants. This may not be to some peoples taste as a lot of the bars in this area are targeted to the single middle aged male.

Not far from Malate is Intramuros which was built by the Spanish in the 16th century, is essentially a town within itself. It is a walled city with a moat that surrounds it (now a golf course). There is many a sight to see within Intramuros with amazing buildings on every corner and great cathedrals and forts. One was to see all the sites is to hire yourself a guide and tour the city with a horse and carriage so you can get to see everything in one day and also get all the information on what you are actually looking at.

South of Manila you have Pansagan, where Pansagan River is located. The banks of this river is where the final scenes of Apocalypse Now was filmed. There is not much in this little town apart from the trip up the river which is great fun. You hire a boat with two boat men who will pull you up river against the rapids to a waterfall where you can get a “waterfall massage” which is essentially where you lay down on your front on a bamboo raft and they pass you underneath the water so that the water falls hard upon your back. It does slightly hurt but is also much fun. After you will then make your way back down the river with the rapids which can be quite frilling depending on what time of year you are there.

On the southern tip of Luzon is Donsol. This is a must trip for anyone who visits the Philippines, from this little town you can get a boat out for the day to go whale shark spotting in which when one is spotted you get in the water with them in all your snorkel gear and swim with them for as long as they wish, in other words until they dive to deep water. Whale sharks are the largest fish in the sea measuring up to 10 metres in length.

Guide To Tourism

Guide To Tourism In Canada

When planning a trip to Canada, you will find a wealth of attractions, activities, and a natural allure that brings millions of travelers to the vast country that offers visits to destinations, such as Montreal, Vancouver, Calgary, Niagara, British Columbia, and Quebec.

Brief History of Canada

According to aboriginal tradition, it is said that the First Peoples (Native Americans) populated various parts of Canada since the land was inhabitable. European exploration of Canada is recorded to first take place around 1000 AD with an array of Viking pursuits. Their adventures were followed by the Atlantic coast discovery of Englishman John Cabot in 1497. The French then landed on Canadian soil in 1534 with the efforts of Jacques Cartier. The first permanent European settlements were established in 1605, situated at Port Royal. Quebec City was created in 1608.

Over the years, French colonists and fur traders took to the land as the St. Lawrence Valley and the Great Lakes became separate settlements, where Catholic missionaries also found a home. Soon, the French and Iroquois Wars erupted during the mid-17th century, fueled by the fur trade. A slew of inter-colonial wars broke out between 1689 and 1763, followed by an assortment of agreements, such as the Treaty of Utrecht. The 19th century in Canada saw the War of 1812 (between the United States and the British Empire); Irish immigration, and the timber industry replace the fur trade.

Geography

As you scan a map or spin a globe, you will find that Canada takes up the majority of the northern part of North America. Canada stretches from the Atlantic Ocean to the Pacific Ocean, touching upon the waters of the Arctic Ocean. The second-largest country in terms of total land area also shares space with the United States with an array of borders including Niagara Falls and the Ambassador Bridge, crossing over the river in Detroit, Michigan.

In the eastern part of the country, the Gulf of St. Lawrence represents the largest estuary in the world, surrounded by Newfoundland. In the north, coniferous forests characterize the vegetation of the region. It is also here that some of the largest islands in the world are situated. The country is also home to the Appalachian Mountains, New Brunswick, Nova Scotia, and the Rocky Mountains.

Holiday Hot Spots

Millions of tourists flock to Canada to experience their own slice of heaven. For some, a wilderness adventure provides a satisfying getaway, while soft sandy beaches allows others to work on the perfect tan. Some destinations offer intriguing village exploration, while tradition, culture, and history present an appealing atmosphere. Some of the top holiday stops in Canada include the likes of destinations, such as Vancouver, Montreal, Toronto, and Calgary.

In Vancouver, you will encounter Stanley Park, Grouse Mountain, Yaletown, Gastown, the Vancouver Aquarium, and the VanDusen Botanical Garden, where Montreal offers the Notre-Dame Basilica, Montreal Museum of Fine Arts, the Montreal International Jazz Festival, and the La Ronde Amusement Park to explore. Some of the popular things to do in Toronto include attending a Toronto Blue Jay baseball game, browsing the Art Gallery of Ontario, visiting the CN Tower, or dining at Wayne Gretsky's Restaurant. The Canada Olympic Park is situated in Calgary, where visitors also enjoy the Calgary Stampede, Calgary Tower, and the Historic Inglewood District, while visiting the largest city in the province, Alberta.

Resorts In Cebu Philippines

resorts in cebu philippines_2"resorts in cebu philippines"

Visit Cebu, Philippines

Cebu, Philippines consists of 167 surrounding islands. This long and constricting island is situated to the west of Leyte and Bohol islands and to the east of Negros. Mactan, Bantayan, Malapascua, Olango and Camotes islands are just few of the 167 islands surrounding the province. The province mainly has coastlines, limestone highlands, shore plains, prevailing hills, and chain of mountains crossing the northern and southern parts of the island.

The ancient metropolis in the country, Cebu City, is the province's capital. Along with four abutting cities are Danao City, Lapu-Lapu City, Mandaue City and Talisay City and they form part of the Cebu Metropolitan Area.

Cebu is one of the most highly developed provinces in the country with its capital city as the main hub of education, trade, commerce, and industry in both central and southern parts of the Visayas.

The Province's Cultural and Historical Heritage

With an approximately 3.5 million dwellers, it is not unusual to hear its inhabitants speak in different languages. Although Cebuano is considered as its official language, Cebu dwellers are familiar with other languages in the country that include Tagalog, Hiligaynon, Waray-Waray and the like. Some of its dwellers are fluent in speaking Spanish especially the mestizo dwellers of the province. Chinese is a common language of the people in the Chinese community while English is considered as the universal language and is used as a medium of teaching in schools and universities and in media, commerce, and government as well.

Majority of people in Cebu are Catholics. This simply shows in the people's devotions to Santo Nino de Cebu, the Holy Child Jesus as their patron saint. Apart from the Catholicism and existence of Roman Catholic Archdiocese in the place, it also has other churches such as the Basilica Minore del Santo Nino, Cebu Metropolitan Cathedral, San Carlos Church, Santo Rosario Parish Church, and Sacred Heart Church. There are also non-Catholic churches, mosques, temples and other worship place found in the island.

Cebu has historical landmarks that will definitely bring its guests hundreds of years back and tell the stories behind it. It has the Basilica Minore del Santo Nino which is a 16th century church found in the very heart of the city. The location of this church is the exact place where a sculpture portraying Jesus as a black Holy Child was made.

Other than that, the province also has the Cebu International Convention Center, the Cebu Provincial Capitol, Fort San Pedro, Lapu Lapu Shrine, the Magellan's Cross, Magellan Shrine, Marcelo Fernan Bridge and the famous Taoist Temple.

The Best In Cebu

Every province in the Philippines has its own celebration and merry making. Cebu is popular for its Sinulog Festival, a religious feast celebrated every third Sunday of January. This is in honor of the Senor Santo Nino de Cebu that commemorates the arrival of the Portuguese explorer in the person of Ferdinand Magellan in the Philippines.

A number of festivals are also celebrated in the province. They have the Mantawi Festival held in Mandaue City, Paskuhan, Kadaugan sa Mactan, Virgin of the Rule Fiesta, Kabanhawan Festival and a whole lot more. Each festival has its own reasons for celebration and behind those reasons are the histories that brought about everything in Cebu, Philippines into its existence.

Retired in Philippines Traveler Pains

Traveling in the Philippines to see the sights and visit historical locations is a common practice of foreign retirees.  They talk about their adventures on my yahoo group retireinphilippines.   Most don't have to many complaints about transportation comfort, but some do.  Many don't complain even though they hurt like everyone else.

Foreigners are usually much bigger and taller than Filipinos for which the busses and boat seats and beds were built.  Autos too, but there are many that are bigger now.  If you can't fly most of your trip or take really nice a full sized reclining seat bus or transport your auto, then you will feel the pounding and uncomfortable accommodations of the boats or the uncontrolled driving antics of bus drivers here more because you are already uncomfortable to start with.  Filipinos don't like bus drivers either and will come early and rush to get a front seat to avoid the whip lash effect of stop and go, whip out and pass and sudden breaking they do as it seems they all drive like their family home is on fire and they must get there as fast as possible.  Filipinos, on the other hand, seem to be able to sleep through most anything and in the small seats as well.  Foreigners need to plan ahead as carefully as they can and include research to find hotels with comfortable beds as well.  A good night of sleep does wonders for aching muscles.

For a heavy tall foreigner the racks on the boats are to short, to close to the floor to get out of without help and are not designed to support 200 pounds.  Cheap foam rubber is ok for a small Filipino, but it's hard on anyone heavier.  To solve this problem one can buy a cot that folds out into a recliner.  The price is high at P1200, but if you can fold it and take it with you, it is well worth the money.

The bus has different problems for the heavy tall foreigner.  He can't sleep in the aisle on his cot, so he is stuck in a seat that is to small unless the nicer bigger busses are available for him to take.  On the cheap bus he might even be joined by fighting roosters.  It is quite funny to suddenly hear a rooster crow on a bus going somewhere.

After you get where you are going, what will the bed in the hotel be like?  Often the beds aren't much more than wood platforms with foam rubber and a sheet on them.  A call ahead with questions can sometimes help one find the more comfortable hotels.  Higher prices is a pretty good sign though.

I am talking about uncomfortable traveling because seniors don't recover like a younger smaller person  does.  Seniors can take days to recover from the bus, the boat, the motor tricycle to small, the taxi, the cheap bed , the small plastic seats that pinch off blood flow, the air con turned way down, the nerve racking hold on tight bus rides, the small steps and flights of stairs to climb and the pain pills he takes so he can enjoy the trip.  Maybe he would be better off seeing a video of the location from his very comfortable recliner to avoid a week of pain and discomfort during and after the trip.

One last comment about travel in the Philippines that affects everyone.  It's the weather.  You can barely predict it at home let alone 500 miles away.  So, expect not to go when your plans say you want to.  A typhoon is tracked, so that one is easy; but, high waves and sudden wind can make a boat ride scary and sickening.  And, boats do break down and it is likely that you will be on it or waiting for it when it does.  Usually they are late as well.  This makes hotel accommodations and other planned and paid for events hard to set.  So, if you do go, expect delays to happen and maybe that will help when they actually do.

This article hasn't been written to promote, persuade or dissuade anyone from traveling to see the beautiful landscape, historical landmarks and all the famous points of interest in the Philippines most people travel to see.  It has been written mostly to remind senior foreigners that they are in fact seniors and with that comes those aches and pains associated with their age.  Best thing to do if you are going anyway is to get out and walk a lot, stock up on your pain pills and do your research.  Expect maybe a day of relaxation doing nothing before you attempt to return.  Expect delays. Give yourself some time to recover and maybe when you get back home you won't keep feeling the results of the trip quite so long.

Diving Suit

What thickness of wet suit is best for diving in the UK/Ireland?

Getting ready to move to the UK and would like to know what wet suit thickness would work best for the area. Thanks for any help.

By far the vast majority of us dive in drysuits. In fact, I'd push the boat out and say 'all' of us dive dry.

Best Beach Resorts Philippines

China Beach, Vietnam is listed in Top Ten of Asia's best beaches

AUSTRALIANS are royally spoiled when it comes to world-class coastlines. Yet still we travel, chasing sandier or sunnier shores. Here are 10 of the best beaches in Asia.

1. SAUD BEACH, PHILIPPINES
On the northwest coast of Luzon, little-known Saud Beach at Pagudpud is a 2km arc of blindingly pure sand bordered by the blue of the South China Sea. It's like an uncluttered version of that famous Philippines shore, White Beach, on Boracay Island. Beat the developers, the hair-braiders and sarong-floggers - head to Pagudpud now.

2. KO ADANG, THAILAND

Thailand's far south Andaman Sea coast has clusters of islands that are still off the radar for tour group invaders and full-moon ravers. The towering rock formations and crystal waters of Ko Tarutao National Marine Park, a 51-island group about 30km off the mainland, are a reminder of how islands such as Phuket, Samui and Phi Phi once were. Here you'll find Ko Adang, a jungle island with pristine shores, empty beaches and not a beer bar in sight.

3. BENTOTA, SRI LANKA

At Bentota Beach, 60km south of Colombo, grand arcs of beach sweep north and south from a rocky promontory. The Indian Ocean massages this coast of granite headlands and uncrowded beaches that surfers and European sun-seekers discovered long ago. There is a choice of three, four and five-star resorts from which you can simultaneously contemplate Bentota's fiery sunset and your of sundowner.

4. YALONG BAY, CHINA

At the same latitude as Hawaii, Hainan is where mainland Chinese come to get that Waikiki feeling without leaving home. While Yalong Bay, near Sanya on Hainan's southern tip, may lack Polynesia's heaving surf and swaying skirts, its broad white beaches are better than many in Hawaii. Fishing villages and rice farms once rimmed Yalong Bay's 7km strand. In their place, quality resorts harvest the disposable incomes of China's leisure class.

5. CHINA BEACH, VIETNAM

China Beach, on Vietnam's central coast near Da Nang, is 30km long and has numerous resorts and restaurants, especially around Bai Non Nuoc. The specific section of the China Beach of Vietnam War and television series fame is known locally as Bai Tam My Khe. Here, you can see fishermen paddle out through its breaking waves in flimsy wicker coracles and then, after fishing, surf right back in again.

6. CALANGUTE, INDIA

"Christmas in Goa" was the mantra for heliotropic (and psychotropic) hippies on the 1970s "Overland Trail". Calangute's palm-fringed shoreline was annually invaded by some of the most upbeat and beat-up minds of their generation; today it is simply built-up. Over-development hasn't been kind to Calangute's little fishing hamlets, but its Arabian Sea full moons are as spellbinding as ever.

7. DUNGUN, MALAYSIA

The east coast of Malaysia is a sleeping secret. Macaque monkeys swing like tiny Tarzans through a tree canopy that borders the South China Sea. Beyond the trees, Dungun, an empty swoop of beach, is one of Malaysia's least-exploited shores. Offshore is Tenggol Island, part of Terengganu Marine Park, where you can snorkel and scuba dive amid gin-and-tonic clear waters alive with turtles, grouper, wrasse and jacks.

8. OCCHEUTEAL, CAMBODIA

Sihanoukville (aka Kompong Som) on Cambodia's pretty south coast is home to five fine beaches, even though the best one, Sokha, is reserved for a private hotel's guests. Sokha's neighbour, Occheuteal Beach, comes a close second with its long stretch of white sand lined with pine trees. Popular with Cambodians and travellers alike, Occheuteal's far northern end has become a backpacker hangout.

9. MAE NAM, THAILAND

Ko Samui's east coast strands are almost too well known. Head up to the north coast to snoozy Mae Nam, where the sands may be narrower, but you're not sharing them with the crowds. The water is clear and calm, the palm trees shady. In the distance you can see a flotilla of blue-grey islands that drifts just north of Samui, including Ko Phangan and Ang Thong Marine Park, where the beaches are truly empty.

10. KENTING, TAIWAN

The semi-tropical landscape of southern Taiwan is a surprise until you remember that the island's earlier Portuguese name, Formosa, means "beautiful". The name still fits. Unhurried and warm, Kenting, at the rugged southernmost tip of the island, has reasonable beaches for swimming, diving and surfing, plus an 18,000-ha national park. There is ample accommodation here, the seafood is excellent and, surprisingly, you're well inside the Tropic of Cancer.
