How's SMARTBRO prepaid broadband plug and surf internet connection and speed in Coron, Palawan, Philippines?

i'm going on vacation and i wonder if i should just buy a smartbro prepaid internet or go to a resort with wifi access. i heard that smart network has strong signal in coron, but i'm not sure if it works the same when it comes to internet connection. pls help. thanks.

Well, I bought a SmartBro USB adapter for the purpose of being able to connect on the internet when I am on the road, but after a few times, I decided to junk it. Even in Quezon City where I live, the signal was very weak. It's very slow especially if the site u are visiting is full of pictures or video clips and I do not mean porno stuff (hehehehe). I just don't have the patience to wait 2 or 3 minutes for each page to load considering you are paying by the minute. It's much better if u go to a hotel where WiFi is accessible or Starbucks Coffee, but they charge Php 100.00 per hour. I hope I didn't disappoint you, but that was my experience with this gadget. However, someone else might have a different opinion.

Philippine Tour

philippine tour_2"philippine tour"

cebu travel guide and tourist attractions guide, what to see in Cebu Philippine

we at IRTouring offers Iran tour, tour to iran, cultural iran tour and info's about philippinis cities such as Cebu, manila and more

Between the 13th and 16th century Cebu then known as Zubu(or Sugbo) was an island inhabited by hindu, animist and muslim tribal groups ruled by Rajahs and Datus. It was a kingdom of the defunct Rajahnate of Cebu.

The Rajahnate of Cebu was a native kingdom which used to exist in Cebu prior to the arrival of the Spaniards. It was founded by Sri 'Lumay' otherwise known as 'Rajamuda Lumaya', a native prince of the Chola dynasty which had invaded Sumatra in Indonesia. He was sent by the Maharajah to establish a base for expeditionary forces to subdue the local kingdoms, but he rebelled and established his own independent Rajahnate instead. This rajahnate waged war against the 'magalos' or (Slave traders) of Maguindanao and had an alliance with the Butuan Rajahnate before it was weakened by the insurrection of Datu (chieftain or king) Lapu-Lapu who converted to Islam and swore allegiance to Sultan Kiram.

The arrival of Portuguese explorer Ferdinand Magellan in 1521 established a period of Spanish exploration and colonization.

Losing favor for his plan of reaching the Spice Islands from king Manuel I of Portugal, by sailing west from Europe, Magellan offered his services to king Charles I of Spain. On September 20, 1519, Magellan led five ships with a crew of 250 people from the Spanish fort of Sanlúcar de Barrameda enroute to Southeast Asia via the Americas and Pacific Ocean. They reached the Philippines on March 16, 1521. Rajah Kolambu the king of Mazaua told them to sail for Cebu, where they could trade and have provisions.

Arriving in Cebu City, Magellan, with Enrique of Malacca as translator, befriended Rajah Humabon the Rajah or King of Cebu and persuaded the natives of allegiance to Charles I of Spain. Humabon and his wife were given Christian names and baptized as Carlos and Juana. The Santo Niño was presented to the native queen of Cebu, as a symbol of peace and friendship between the Spaniards and the Cebuanos. On April 14, Magellan erected a large wooden cross on the shores of Cebu. Afterwards, about 700 islanders were baptized.

Magellan soon heard of Datu Lapu-Lapu, a native king in nearby Mactan Island, a rival of the the Rajahs of Cebu. It was thought that Humabon and Lapu-Lapu had been fighting for control of the flourishing trade in the area. On April 27, the Battle of Mactan occurred where the Spaniards were defeated and Magellan killed by Lapu-Lapu in Mactan Island. According to Italian historian and chronicler, Antonio Pigafetta, Magellan's body was never recovered despite efforts to trade for it with spice and jewels. Magellan's second in command, Juan Sebastián Elcano took his place as captain of the expedition and sailed their fleet back to Spain, circumnavigating the world.

Survivors of the Magellan expedition brought tales of a savage island in the East Indies with them when they returned to Spain. Consequently, several Spanish expeditions were sent to the islands but all ended in failure. In 1564, Spanish explorers led by Miguel López de Legazpi sailing from Mexico arrived in 1565 and established a colony. The Spaniards fought the King Rajah Tupas and occupied his territories. The Spaniards established settlements, trade flourished and renamed the island to "Villa del Santíssimo Nombre de Jesús" (Town of the Most Holy Name of Jesus). Cebu became the first European settlement established by the Spanish Cortés in the Philippines. In 1595, the Universidad de San Carlos (University of San Carlos) was established and in 1860, Cebu opened its forts to foreign trade. The first printing house ("Imprenta de Escondrillas y Cia") was established in 1873 and in 1880, the Colegio de la Inmaculada Concepcion (College of the Immaculate Conception) was established and the first periodical The Bulletin of Cebu ("El Boletin de Cebú") began publishing in 1886. In 1898, the island was ceded to the United States after the Spanish-American War and Philippine-American War. In 1901, Cebu was governed by the United States for a brief period, however it became a charter province in February 24, 1937 and was governed independently by Filipino politicians.

Cebu, being one of the most densely populated island in the Philippines, served as a Japanese base during their occupation in World War II which began with the landing of Japanese soldiers in April 1942. Almost three years later in March 1945, combined Filipino and American forces landed and reoccupied the island during the liberation of the Philippines. Cebuano rebel soldiers led by an American, James Cushing is credited for the establishment of the Koga Papers which is said to have changed the American plans to retake the Philippines from Japanese occupation in 1944, by helping the United States and the Philippine Army enter Cebu in 1945. The following year the island achieved independence from colonial rule in 1946

The Best Travel Destination In Asia

If the time has come for your vacation or a holiday getaway, read this article before making your plans.  There are many places of great beauty and interest to be seen in the USA and Europe.  But, whether transportation, touring, theme park, or food and lodging, it is expensive.  This article is written for every traveler, whether a backpacker on a budget, or a first class - five star traveler.

Travel in Asia is inexpensive and opens the door to different cultural experiences.  Planning can be for a short holiday, an extended stay, or choices of laying the groundwork for the ultimate stay, retirement.  Nowadays, with so many opportunities to make money using the Internet it is not out of the question to "retire" early.

Medical Tourism in Asia growing in popularity.  It is high quality and affordable.  Just one of International standard hospitals in Bangkok serves 400,000 international patients annually,  In the USA cataract surgery for one eye runs around $8,000.   At a prestigious International hospital in Thailand cataract surgery can be performed on both eyes for around $2,500.  It is possible to have quality medical care, and an Asian holiday, for a fraction of the cost of the same procedure in the USA.

Let us take a tantalizing glimpse at just some of the countries.

Thailand - Land of Smiles.  Often referred to as the most exotic country in Southeast Asia.  A visit to the Grand Palace in Bangkok for sure.  Trips to a floating market or to the Bridge on the River Kwai.  From pristine beaches in the Southern Islands to the Northern mountains with its waterfalls, elephants bathing in mountain streams, and Hill Tribe villages.

India - Delhi is one of the oldest continually inhabited cities in the world.  India Gate, an imposing structure, has emerged as one of the most popular tourist spots in Delhi.  The Red Fort Delhi, a masterpiece of architecture, is a popular spot.  A trip to India would not be complete without a visit to Agra, famous as the site of one of the world's most romantic, graceful and photographed buildings, the Taj Mahal.

Cambodia, Vietnam, Laos - Three small countries neighboring Thailand.  Each opens a different world of exploration.  Cambodia - the highlight is visiting Angkor Wat, an architectural masterpiece constructed in the jungle in the early 12th century.  Vietnam - is a varied country, offering beaches, mountains and hundreds of years of history from the ancient Cham Towers to remnants from the Vietnam War. Laos - savor the crafts, culture and hospitality of Laos with a river trip, visits to ancient temples, gorgeous palaces, and traditional villages.

Nepal - Adventure, travel, trekking, birding, wildlife, and cultural & overland Safaris.  Take an air flight along the Himalayas and view magnificent Mount Everest.  Nearby, discover the serene beauty of Tibet, the country which inspired the Dalai Lama.  .

Indonesia - Jakarta, the capital city of the world's fourth most-populous nation.  Bali is Indonesia's main holiday destination.  Flores is a pretty lush green island with forests, palm and banana trees, rice fields and many volcanoes.  Highlights are the three small offshore islands of "Gillis" that invite snorkeling, diving and relaxing.  For hikers, a climb to the top of the volcano Rijani.

Philippines - An island nation comprising over 7,000 islands in the western Pacific Ocean.
Manila, the bustling capital has powerful reminders of the country's past, along with attractive parks, fine museums, and exhilarating nightlife.  The Ifugao Rice Terraces
are a testimony to the early technological advancement of the Ifugao people.  Take a jeepney ride to the market.  Be brave, try balut, a Philippine delicacy.  Go diving in the Visayas.

Singapore - Shopping on famous Orchard Road, the dream of every woman.  The Night Safari at Singapore Zoo is fabulous.  Chinatown, a little glitzy, but you can buy all the souvenirs you want there.  Interestingly, one of Singapore's most beautiful Hindu temples is smack dab in the middle of Chinatown.  Decide if a Singapore Sling is worth the hype in the Long Bar at Raffles Hotel.  There's more to Singapore than urban glitz, like rambling in the rain forest of Bukit Timah Nature Reserve.
Japan - Tokyo is the capital city and home of the Imperial Residence and Emperor's Palace.  Select a popular destination or region in Japan and explore its attractions.  Ride the Bullet Train to the magnificent city of Kyoto.  Visit Hiroshima and the Peace Memorial Park.  Castles, temples, gardens, the list of top destinations in Japan is too long for this article..

Taiwan - Taipei, the country's booming, vibrant capital remains steeped in Chinese, Japanese and native Taiwanese cultures.  Some of its most impressive sights include the Grand Hotel, topped by the largest Classical Chinese roof in the world, the Shihlin Night Market, the Chiang Kai-shek Memorial with the National Theater and Concert Hall located directly across from each other on the grounds.  A popular day trip is Tailuge (Taroko Gorge), considered one of the natural wonders of the world.

Hong Kong - the Pearl of East and jewel of The Orient.  Nathan Road is lined with shops, restaurants, nightspots and cheap places to stay.  If you're in Hong Kong with the little ones, they'll probably appreciate Ocean Park (aquarium), Water World (swimming pools and water slides), and of course Disneyland.  If you're in Hong Kong for more than a few days, then there's plenty of outlying islands to discover.

It is often said that for the traveler that has seen it all and done it all, there is still Katmandu, Nepal.  And, that too is in Asia!

If you do not visit Asia, you will be missing not only a paradise of affordable travel, but the chance to see an alternative living location.  For retirees, it is luxury living for pennies, not just getting by on their pension.  Asia, a paradise experience is waiting for you.

Farm Resort Philippines

Is Tiburon, Philippines a safe place to live?

My wife and I have a chance to buy property on the beach. We have a 2 year old daughter and wonder if it is a safe place to build a home and live.
We Have asked people we know here in Liloan and the stories come back anywhere from "Yes, it is a farm and resort area", to "No, militants and drug addicts are everywhere there".
We just want an honest answer, please.
This is Cebu, Philippines, no "Typhoons" here and as far as an engineer goes, there really isn't any need for one.
Actually, we prefer to build our own homes here for the most part.
I was wondering about the local population when I asked if it was safe here, as there are places around Cebu where outlaws live and Tiburon is a farming area with lots of places for criminals to hide, should they decide to do so.

I bet the people are great and safe, but is it a sound investment to build property so close to sea level with so many severe storms? Is it a protected area? What is the history of tidal surges during typhoons? Can you afford to engineer and construct a strong reinforced concrete structure that will withstand any pounding? Is flood insurance available? The quality of life on the coast anywhere is generally very nice (and safe) most of the time ......until there are 200 mph winds, 25 foot waves, and tidal surges that can move the largest boulders like toys. I grew up on a coast, but one mile inland, at an elevation of 50 feet. One reason resort property is expensive, is because they often must repair damage.

Bohol: The Land of the Famous Chocolate Hills

Bohol is a famous and attractive province in the Philippines. The province has beautiful beaches and enticing tourist destinations, which are widely visited by locale people and foreigners. Above all, the place is very accessible by Air, sea and land - so travelers will not have difficulty visiting this alluring island province.

Known as one of the island provinces of the Philippines, Bohol is located at the Central Visayas region and is beside Cebu and Leyte. This province is one of the many attractive tourist destinations in the country. Like Boracay and Palawan and Puerto Galera, other tourist spots in the Philippines, Bohol also has many beautiful and fascinating resorts and beaches. Hence, it is reported that the tourism industry contributes a lot to the economic developments in the province.

Based on the 2000 census done at the province, there are 1,137,268 permanent residents in Bohol. The census also found that there are 209,588 households in the province with an average size of 5.41 people. The life expectancy in the province is greater than those in Negros Oriental and Siquijor which is 72.93 for women and 68.19 for men.

Most residents in the province speak Boholano, which is a Cebuano dialect. However, since migration is a constant trend in Bohol, there are also residents who use Chinese, English and Tagalog as their primary languages. In addition, some schools in the province taught original Boholano Eskayan language to their students.

Each year the number of travelers who visit Bohol increases. This is due to the attractive tourist spots and natural wonders that can be found in the province. The famous formation of limestone called the Chocolate Hills are the most visited spot in Carmen. Meanwhile, many tourists also visit the popular rivers in the province which are the Loboc River and the Inabanga River.

Panglao Island in Bohol is famous for its white sand beaches. Along in these beaches are beautiful hotels and resorts where travelers and foreigners can stay and enjoy the sceneries. Travelers can also visit the Mag-aso falls, which is located at Antequera as well as the Bilar Mahogany Forest.

Travelers are encouraged to experience and have a glance at the festivals that are held in this attractive province. The Sandugo Festival, the Tagbilaran City Fiesta, the Bolibong Kingking Festival and Festival of Lights or SidlaKasilak are the renowned festivals in Bohol, Tourists who would witness these festivals will remember their stay and vacation at the province for the rest of their lives.

Transportation to Bohol is very easy since the province is very accessible. Tourists can travel by land, air and water. The easiest way would be flying with Cebu Pacific from Manila to Bohol, which departs twice a day and is bookable online on the Cebu Pacific web site for only around P2000 one way. The national government of the Philippines established seaports and airports in the province so that travelers will not experience problems when it comes to visiting the beautiful island of Bohol.

Philippines Scuba Diving

philippines scuba diving_3"philippines scuba diving"
Thinking about SCUBA diving in the philippines but don't have certification....?

I am studying abroad in Hong Kong and it looks like I'll have a chance to go on a SCUBA trip to the Philippines for 3 days or so. I have gone diving between 5-10 times, all in moderately shallow water (no deeper than 50 feet), and don't have any official certification although I have had many instruction courses. I know the basics but have no certification. I'm going with a group who has more experience than me. so, will they let me dive without certification? Will they make me take a course? How deep will they let me go without certification? Are the best dives going to be off-limits to me? Let me know what you can, it is all appreciated. Please only respond if you have some knowledge on the topic, thanks!

Well, let me get the bad news out of the way first.

First of they probably won't let you dive unless they are willing to risk their insurance and dive shop to let you dive.

Second they may make you take a course, and some of them are short. To be a PADI Scuba Diver it would take maybe two days but you would be required to dive with a PADI Divemaster or above for each of your dives.

Third a "Discover Scuba" class is usually limited to less than 40 ft on their dives and that's after a few hours of instruction.

Fourth, I'm afraid some of the best dives would be out of your reach, however there is still a lot to see at less than 40 ft.

Now for the better news

You should contact the agencies that you have dove with before and try to get copies of anything they have to see if you can compile it together and get a certification through one of them. Another option would be to take the PADI online course to get all of your book work out of the way and do the confined and open water portion while you are in the Philippines. It could take a day maybe two to finish the water skills. One thing you will have to remember though is that you can't fly for a minimum of 12 hours after diving, and sometimes 24 hours depending on your dive profile so that could take up one of your days.

Good luck

Top 5 Beaches in the Philippines – According to Me

Tourists flock the Philippines for its beaches—come hell or high water (or terrorist threats). And who can blame them? Tourists can get the best white-sand-beaches at the cheapest costs. I'm not much of a beach bum (5 minutes under the sun and I turn into toast), but I love the following beaches for their beauty:

Boracay
People may say it's overrated because it's easily the most popular beach in the country. But I say that the place deserves all the praise that comes its way. The fine white sand stretches along the whole tourist side of the bay. The sand slopes gently; no sudden drops while playing in the water. There are a lot of water activities waiting to be done. Shops, restaurants, hotels, and other friendly business establishments line the beach. There is even a strip mall in the hub of the beach! The water seemed magical to me; warm when it was drizzling, and cold when the weather is too warm.

Bohol
The white beach in Panglao Island, Bohol is another favorite of mine. But I love the dolphins there more than the beach itself! You can rent a boat for a small fee. The boatsmen will cheerfully lead you to spots where the dolphins are. It's so much fun watching them play with each other, and even playing with the boats and the people inside.

Puerto Galera
Great for a spur-of-the-moment getaway from Manila is the White Beach in Puerto Galera. It's sort of a smaller version of Boracay. The night life is as active here as in Boracay.

Samal Island
This is a great place to visit with families, as well as friends. The fine white sand slopes gently here, too. As an added precaution, the tourist sections are fenced off from the deeper parts of the water. Plus, the water is so clear; you can see fish swimming around your toes!

Marinduque
There are a lot of beaches among the islands of Marinduque. One of the popular beaches there is called White Beach. But my favorite will always be one of the beaches of the Tres Reyes (Three Kings) Islands. The shore is made up purely of beautiful shells! In my opinion, this is one of the hidden jewels of the Philippines. Travel information can sometimes get very localized; and this place has not received much publicity.

Here ends my top 5 list of beaches in the Philippines. But don't take my word for it! Also, you might like other beaches more; so get as much Philippines travel tips as you can and start exploring the country soon!

100 Islands Philippines Resorts

100 islands philippines resorts_3"100 islands philippines resorts"

Philippines' Pamalican Island

Whenever we hear Philippines, we think of luscious forests, warm smiles of Filipinos and white sand beaches. Speaking of beaches, Boracay always comes to your mind as a beach-freak. Aside from the infamous Boracay, there are other white sand beaches in the tropics. Pamalican Island, apart from Boracay, is a small island that belongs in Cuyo Group of Islands located at the heart of Palawan and Panay. It is also the home of the high-end Amanpulo Island Resort.

Having the name Amanpulo (which means peaceful) spells it's true meaning and added to that feature is it's alluring beauty and tranquility. However, to transport tourists from Manila to the island, there is always an airplane standing by. It is also used to transport goods and supplies to the island. The island can accommodate less than 100 people to stay. That is an assurance that the place is not that crowded compared to Boracay and Puerto Galera. The fact that it's so small you can tour the whole island in 3-5 hours walk.

If you think walking around the island is boring, think again. The island has so many activities to offer just like diving, snorkeling, fishing, sailing, windsurfing, and beach combing. If you feel the romantic ambiance, try to arrange a barbecue night out with your date or simply grab your picnic basket and do your picnicking on the neighbor island. You can also indulge yourself in the island's casitas (bungalow) that goes with a personal buggy. So if vacation is what you have in mind, always include Pamalican Island in your list of travel destinations in Asia.

Boracay In The Philippines

boracay in the philippines_5"boracay in the philippines"

Checklist for a great stay in Boracay

So you've spent countless hours on line searching for the best place for your holiday. You stumble upon a beach with pristine white sand and crystal blue green water. And you have unknowingly stumbled upon a piece of paradise called Boracay in the Philippine islands.

Getting to Boracay is not tricky, but it does require planning. Here are a few things to help you plan a memorable and relaxing stay.

Accommodation

You will need to look up accommodations first of all: Boracay Hotels dot net can help you find the right hotel. You will be able to read hotel reviews in the comfort of your home. A good tip is to ask friends who have been there or check out blogs and reviews. Ask if the hotel has a vault to deposit your travel papers and valuables. The security will give you peace of mind and allow you to enjoy your holiday better.

Transportation

Remember to book your flights seamlessly assuming that you plan to get there by air. You will need to schedule trips if you plan on traveling straight through to the island. The best route is to get to the Philippines is via Philippine Airlines.  Once in Manila you will have to take a 30 minute domestic flight to Caticlan. You can choose from available carriers like Cebu Pacific, Air Philippines, and Sea Air.

Upon your arrival at Caticlan, you will need to take a short trip to the jetty and from there a 15 minute boat ride to the island. There are no ports on Boracay, so expect to wade to shore so remember to wear something light and comfortable.

Protection from the Elements

Do not forget to stock up on sun screen. The beach sun can be deceiving and you could get caught up with all the activities available (or just the opposite, and fall asleep on your blanket) and burn to a crisp without noticing. That would be a big bummer on your vacation. If traveling with a companion make sure to remind each other about applying sun screen regularly.

Make sure to pack your most stylish anti UV ray sun shades. Not only do you look cool and rock-starish behind those peeper covers, it'll also prevent you from looking like someone who sucked on a lemon as you squint against the sun. It'll save you a couple of years of frown lines and you can ogle all you want at the beach bodies without being too obvious.

There are mosquitoes aplenty in the Philippines. Locals joke that if they got any bigger, they'd fly off with you. Of course, that's not true. But it is true that if bitten, they could leave red, itchy, angry welts on your skin which will not make for good accessory with your bikini unless it's a red polka dotted suit. Boracay is considered a low risk for malaria, but some tourists prefer to get vaccinated before the trip. It would be wise however to apply insect repellant to your arms and legs at night when you venture out to the many beach parties you will surely stumble upon leaving your hotel room, cabana, or villa.

Hydration

Have a bottle of water handy at all times. You will want to walk the beach or explore inward and walk the island. It would be wise to hydrate often specially in such a warm climate.

Medication

As long as you have exploring the island on your list, do remember to carry a small first aid kit. There are doctors and medical centers, even a hospital on the island should a need arise, but it is always comforting to have some antiseptic and band aid for minor cuts. As long as you're packing a first aid kit, you might want to consider a handful of medications, like analgesic for fever, anti-diarrhea for possible food poisoning, anti nausea pills for water and air travel, and Cortisone cream for insect bites.

Money

Every thing tangible that was mentioned above can be purchased on the island. So the last tip is the most obvious one: Bring enough cash for your stay. There are ATMs on the island, but you will often find them off line. Hotels can charge a pretty penny on currency exchange and does anyone use travelers' cheques anymore? If you do, then be sure to cash them in Manila.

Now that you have done your home work, don't forget to pack your bathing suit.

Diving Lessons

diving lessons_5"diving lessons"

Learning Scuba diving - Certification and what do you learn whilst training for it

So, how do you obtain the scuba diving certification? The only way to receive this certification is by signing up with a scuba diving school which basis its curriculum with a recognized scuba training agency. Such scuba certification agencies regulate and represent diving professionals and operators whilst also promoting the sport and the marine environment.

On successful completing the training, you will be certified as a scuba diver. You will then receive a scuba diving license which will allow you to scuba dive with diver operators and rent scuba equipment.

Because there are many different scuba diving certification agencies around, it is worth to find out which ones are closer to your home. It is important to understand that the approach to scuba diving will vary for each agency. However most popular agencies will offer very similar training for recreational scuba and will recognize each others qualifications.

Some Agencies are global organizations such as PADI and NAUI and thus recognized worldwide whilst other agencies are closely related to their country of origin.

Scuba lessons - Theory

In the theory part, you will be learning scuba diving safety techniques and basic scuba concepts. You will likely watch videos introducing you to scuba and will be briefed on scuba safety practices. Within the theory lessons you will also get to learn the different scuba hand signals for use underwater communication.

Most important of all, you will be introduced to the different diving equipment that you are soon going to use. During this time you will also be reading text books and gaining an understanding of the relationship between depth and pressure. Knowledge of how to use the dive tables to plan a dive and assembling and maintaining your scuba equipment will also be provided within this part of your scuba diving lessons.

Scuba lessons - Confined Water training

The next part of your scuba lessons is the confined water training. Finally within this part of the scuba course, you will actually get your first experience to breathing underwater. These sessions will train you on how to use your equipment and practice your buoyancy and surfacing skills. There are many skills to practice and learn, so you will probably have several sessions to practice them out.

At the end of the theory and confined sessions, you will be required to pass a final exam to progress to the open water portion of the program.

Scuba diving lessons - Open Water training

The final portion is the open water training. Here you will get to test the skills learned from the previous confined water training sessions. You will here practice the scuba diving skills with your instructor until you are completely confident and can perform them with ease in a real diving situation.

During these scuba dives, you will be given an orientation to some of the local conditions and environment you will be diving in once you have completed the course. The good thing about it is that you will also get to check out the underwater scenery. Be ready to become addicted to diving. These skill evaluation tests are spread over approximately four different dives. Once your instructor is satisfied with your progress and have passed all the necessary tests, you will be certified as an official scuba diver.

half man-half horse in phillippines?

okay this is kinda freaky. i had been to a long vacation in the phillippines... urdaneta, pangasinan to be exact. i got really sick the first 4 days so i stayed home at my grandma's house? one night, it was raining and there was lightning and thunder. my grandma has a a huge garden in front of her house. i was looking out the window, admiring the rain and lightning flashes.. in the garden i see a half man-half horse looking creature looking straight at me. i was home alone and i freaked out. almost s*it my pants. then a week later, i stayed at the mayor resort with my family. we were sleeping in his guest house in the back. i was taking a shower and decided to look out the window to look at the beach, eventhough it was night time. i saw light from a boat or something afar and it flashed in my face and i saw the same creature looking dead at me. i freaked out again. where can i find info on this half man-half horse? i heard it's a filipino myth... filipinos let me know!

well it is commonly known as a centaur, but here in Philippines it is famous as Tikbalang who is said to lurk in the mountains and forests. It is generally described as a tall, bony humanoid creature with disproportionately long limbs, to the point that its knees reach above its head when it squats down. It has the head and sometimes feet of an animal, most commonly a horse. It is sometimes believed to be a transformation of an aborted fetus which has been sent to earth from limbo.

Superstitions

Tikbalangs are said to scare travelers and lead them astray. Tikbalangs play tricks on travelers such that they keep on returning to an arbitrary path no matter how far he goes or where he turns. Supposedly this is counteracted by wearing one's shirt inside out. Another countermeasure is to ask permission out loud to pass by or, not to produce too much noise while in the woods in order not to offend or disturb the tikbalang.

A common saying has it that rain from a clear sky means may kinakasal na tikbalang. (Filipino, "a tikbalang is getting married".) This was most likely derived from a similar Spanish proverb that claimed a witch was getting married when there was rain on a sunny day.

Where can I get old weather reports for the Philippines?

I can only find current reports from the newspaper sites. I hope someone can help.

To get daily weather reports (in a table format not a written summary) check out the National Climatic Data Center Global Summary of the Day product:

They have archived daily weather data summaries from around the globe. They should have what you need, unless you need a written description.

I noted they use English units.

List Of Beach Resorts

list of beach resorts"list of beach resorts"
hotels near the beach in Myrtle beach?

My mom and I are going to go to Myrtle Beach this week as a kind of last minute trip. I think we will be driving(from Ohio) and then staying at a hotel. My dad has a lot of points saved up from Hampton inn/embassy suites/doubletree etc.. and we need to figure out what hotel to stay at. I would like to be fairly close to the beach, possibly walking distance, but we can't afford the very expensive resorts found right on the beach. So has anyone ever stayed in one of the above hotels at Myrtle Beach or what would you recommend? Thanks in advance.

Also if you could list some other activities in Myrtle Beach that we might like (I'm 16). I know my mom wouldn't want to sit on the beach all day, and we want to have fun while relaxing.

Living in Myrtle Beach, and playing host to family and friends, I have been tasked many times to come up with good activities on a tight budget. With this experience I give the following advice.
1)When making reservations or buying tickets ask for any discounts or deals. Many of these will be unadvertised and change regularly.
2)Always let the ticket seller know if you are active or retired military, a senior citizen, a local resident, a AAA member, a teacher, etc.
3)If you plan to do an activity multiple times ask about a season pass. For ex: several of the area miniature golf courses are owned by the same company. If you play 10 rounds on these courses over your stay a season pass will save you $3.00 per round.

Best Hotels And Resorts

What are the best ammenities for a resort?

What is the best resort, hotel, or bed and breakfast that you have been to, and why? What ammenities did they have that you loved the most?
I ask this because I want to run my home like a vacation resort. :)

I've been to way too many resorts that I have loved to list them all. To me, the most important part of a resort is the service. If the staff is helpful, and willing to help, the place is clean and everybody is friendly, then I am happy.

Also, some good room service or a nice restaraunt in the hotel is always great as well. Sometimes you just don't feel like going out and that is very nice to have.

But I really just look for some place that is clean and everyone is friendly and helpful. Then I'm happy ;-)
