i'm a diver and i need cheap gear. i'm going diving early next year so i need it FAST!!!

I suppose you could wait for the last diver who bought cheap gear to bloat and float to the surface and use his stuff once.
Why don't you hit your local dive shop that has a inhouse dive club. You want cheaper gear, that's the place to find it. Many dive shops will sell members used gear on consignment. It will have been inspected before sale and safe.
New gear? Travel to an area that has snow right now. Dive shops in those areas will have a lot of their 2010 gear on sale to make way for 2011 and ...since it's a slow time for them...there will be deals.
Stay away from craigs list or Ebay...it ain't cheap when you add in shipping and you never know what you get. Many of those online "deals" are factory seconds.
I'm curious as to why you need this "fast"? Trip? Rent what you need at your destination. You won't be flying with weights and tank.anyway. You only need bring your reg set ( even these can be rented), BC ( same thing here ..rental) and your mask/fins/snorkel.

BHI SUBSCRIBES TO ADDITIONAL P40M IN FRIDAYS

Publicly listed Boulevard Holdings, Inc. (stock symbol “BHI”) will  inject an additional P40M into its Fridays Hotel  unit in Boracay  Island  from internally  generated funds.  Fridays Boracay will use the money for the acquisition of  additional  property  within Boracay  for its resort expansion.

A portion of the monies will be allocated for  the refurbishment and rehabilitation of its existing facilities  while the  business is on its  low season. The planned  project activities  are scheduled in preparation for the nearly fully booked high season that starts  in October of this year up through June 2010 based on advance bookings already   received   from regular and satisfied foreign  and local clients.

Mauro Badiola, BHI’s VP for Finance, stated that the parent company regularly receives reports from its subsidiary that currently does not bode well for the performance of hotels in Boracay Island.  “The report of our General Manager, Mr. Barry Schofield, recently indicated that tourism in Boracay is being hammered by several factors:  the dwindling  visits of the regional western expat travelers and local elite clients, the recent stoppage since June 25 of virtually all direct flights to Caticlan (and diversion to Kalibo) by Zest Air, Cebu Pacific, and PAL due to plane size to runway safety considerations, the swine flu rumors in the news prevalent to the Philippines, the recent direct hits from the last few typhoons, and overall disappearance in global demand for travel services. Everyone is suffering for now, even the newly opened ones like the Shangri La Boracay.” Nevertheless, Mr. Badiola went on to say, “that when the economy picks up even through traditional peak travel seasons, the first thing people will do is reward themselves and their family with some quality but affordable vacation. We remain confident that the Philippine government tirelessly promotes its tourism assets abroad, and foresee some move upward in overall tourism traffic, also as long as hotels—elite or budget—would keep their prices affordable and reasonable, in relation to value experienced by the client.”

Another unit of BHI, Fridays Boquete Island, continues to focus  on the on-going construction of its 85 room Boutique Hotel  in the lagoons of Puerto Galera.   Expected soft opening is scheduled  within the first quarter of 2010.  With this in mind, the public company plans to raise an additional 80 million pesos, largely from disposal of some of its assets  abroad and from within.  BHI is a stakeholder and partner of Gems Cayman which owns Hong Kong based Gems International, which in turn is a partner of Macquarie in operating another fund manager, called ARF Investment Management Ltd., managing the Asia Resources Fund Limited (ARFL).  ARFL is now on its fund raising activity.  BHI company CEO, Mr. J. Marcel Panlilio, stated that, “at some point BHI’s cash will be a large fraction of its market value, and so, we must channel funds to what we see as good growth but proven businesses such as resort chain development.  Also BHI has an extensive set of beach properties throughout the Philippines, so the investment yield won’t be too diluted with the land acquisition aspect.”

To fully complete its resort chain investments, BHI intends all in all to raise about 650 million pesos, from a combination of asset disposals, internally generated funds, and private placement with foreign private equity.

BHI closed at P.10 on its last trading session.

I will suggest Plantation Bay. The staff are great, facilities superb plus if you have kids they got lots of free things to do. We stayed there May last year and it was awesome! They will pick you up from the airport, no hassle in checking in, lots of pools. It was peak season when we were there but since the property is very big it doesn't seem too crowded at all. Plus I got a good deal too, for 6 adults and 1 child I payed 22,000 Php for 3 days and 2 nights for the accomodations. They also have a no tipping policy which I think is great, for me it meant that the service they gave was sincere since they are not expecting anything in return.

Bohol Resorts And Hotels

i recently made a reservation in Bohol Plaza Resort & Restaurant through the Palakbayan Package.?

I just realized that the hotel is far from the city proper. Has anyone been there and give me some feedback? It will be my first time there together with my family of six.

I've been to Bohol once overnight and drove across it for some dumb reason.
The hotel I stayed was very nice clean and attractive. I don't remember the name.
The question to ask them is do they have a white sand beach. That will cost you more but then you have a swimming beach for the kids.
If not they will have to do with a nice big pool.
Just go have fun. Stay out of the mountains and you should be safe enough. I would go for a plane ride over the Chocolate Mt's.

The best beach near Manila is Laiya in San Juan, Batangas.

There are several resort options, with some on the very high end. And yet, there are cottages for the size of your group that you can rent for P2,000 overnight. That will be well within your budget.

There are nice resorts with affordable day tour fees, but I understand you want to stay in the place for 2 nights, if possible. Unless you are willing to sleep in tents, and are allowed to camp, these de luxe places are out of your list.

Alternatively, you can go to Nasugbu in Batangas. There is a row of beach resorts on the left side of the road when you enter the town. The cottages are also inexpensive.

A staff of Maribago Bluewater Beach Resort (www.bluewater.com.ph), told me that the seven dolphin in their logo symbolizes the seven dolphin in the LEGEND. Legend has it that young Lapu-Lapu, future Chieftain of Maktan, was on his way to sea one day when he came upon seven tiny dolphin calves. They were helplessly trapped in a puddle of water surrounded by roots of mangrove trees. He carefully picked them up and took them to deeper waters where he released them. Lapu-Lapu watched as the calves swam into the distant horizon, never thinking of meeting them again.

A year passed.
While at sea, seven beautiful adult dolphins approached Lapu-Lapu and began to play around his little canoe. They were chirping happy and melodic sounds while playfully waving their flippers, as if inviting him to join them. Unable to resist, Lapu-Lapu jumped in. Thus, began the endearing friendship between man and the beautiful sea creatures.

The natives wondered at the camaraderie between their chieftain and the seven dolphins. They watched in amazement as the group cavorted around at sea almost daily - he, riding any one of them as they cruised around the pristine waters of Maktan Island. Without fail, Lapu-Lapu came home at the end of the day with his canoe loaded with fish and pearls. These were then distributed among the villagers.

Stories about the seven dolphins' heroism abound.

On one occasion, a banca which was overloaded with villagers coming back from festivities in nearby Olango Island, capsized in the middle of the deep Hilutungan channel. It was told that lives would have been lost had it not been for Lapu-Lapu and the seven dolphins who came to their rescue.

The dolphins were also known to have stopped pirate raids. In those days, the islands of Maktan and Sugbu were occasionally attacked by Muslim pirates. They would pillage the villages which were then under Lapu-Lapu's domain. Pirates who attempted to wade to shore in silence under the cover of darkness were warded off by the dolphin. They later learned to avoid these villages as the waters were known to be guarded by powerful "water spirits."

When Magellan and his men came to Maktan to punish the recalcitrant chieftain in the early dawn of April 28, 1521, legend has it that seven dolphins were there as the island's first line of defense. Their tenacity distracted the invaders and caused them to tire before they could reach shore.

How crowded is Boracay these days?

I used to go there often up to about 12 years ago. It was very laid back; no high rise, bakery vendors going door to door, great Italian just down white beach (or long beach? I forget) and the English bakery half way across. Bazzura bar was about the liveliest entertainment ... Used to stay at a French guy's resort...Round bungalows. About 500pesos a night. I had a banca (boat) on permanent hire. Great fun sailing around the island. Can you still do that or is it all jet skis and highrise now.

Boracay is almost unrecognisable from the sleepy island it was 12 years ago. During peak season it is very overcrowded, but in low season it's still quite pleasant.
Much of White Beach is now lined with large concrete hotels, and there are only a few places left with beach hut style accommodation. You can still find rooms for P500 per night though, but you have to look harder.
Alongside the jetskis and highrise buildings which are beginning to take over, you can still rent a "paraw" (outrigger sailboat) and cruise around the coast, though many of the once-deserted beaches are now being developed.

Me and my Two Brothers, are going scuba diving in a section of Pensacola Bay. We've swam these Waters many times. But still like seeing the marine life that's there.
I'm in a particularly good mood. So, as we're carrying our things to the water? I start singing the Bobby Darin Song, "Splish splash, I was taking a Bath. Long about a Saturday night"? Rub-a-dub.."
... When all of a sudden. My Brother stops me. And points out toward the distance. "I saw a dark shadow swimming toward the guide".
My other Brother yells to him. "We don't have a Guide!! We're on our own, Dummy!"
.. Under my breath, I muttered, "I SO did not wanna hear that".
But the first Brother, continues, "NO! Are you listening to me? The guide that shows us how far we can go. I saw something out there!"
.. I eased up close to to my Brother and whispered in his ear. "This place reminds me of The Creature From The Black Lagoon".
.. To ease my mind. My Brother quickly comes back with, "Oh now! There you go talking about your ex-wife again! (laughing as he said it) Come' On! Let's get in the water. It must've just been a school of smaller fish. It's gonna be alright".
... Three Brothers, sharing their time. Being together to help each other get through. And having The Water to share our time with? Is just why God made us Brothers.

i think the easiest way is to contact these call centers through mail using their add in manila.. ask them the contact number of their branch in cebu.. :D if u are in manila, you can give them a call.. there's a lot of advertisment about these companies..

6 Things You Should Know About the Sipadan Island Before You Book Your Diving Trip

So, you decided to go diving in Malaysia! The best place to do it is on the Sipadan Island. Here are a few things you should know about it.

(1) What makes it special. Pulau Sipadan, as the natives call it, is the only oceanic island of Malaysia in the Celebes Sea, just off the coast of Borneo. It rises 600 meters above sea level and it is home of thousands of species of fish, corals and turtles.

(2) Getting there. First you fly into Malaysia, either to the capital, Kuala Lumpur or directly into the capital of the state of Sabah, Kota Kinabalu, on the island of Borneo. There are several flights a day from each of these locations to the town of Tawau. There is also a bus service from Kota Kinabalu to Tawau, if you prefer the scenic route. Then you can take a taxi or a minivan to the port town Semporna. Lastly, you take a fast boat directly to the Sipadan Island.

(3) Keep in mind that you cannot stay on Sipadan Island! Since the year 2005 the Malaysian government has enforced strict regulations on the numbers of visitors and divers on the island. Because of the incredibly huge number of tourists that have flooded the island, the government turned it into a wildlife and marine life sanctuary. There are only 120 dive permits offered per day, on a first come - first served basis.

(4) What is there to see and do? You can walk around the beautiful sandy beaches, where sometimes large monitor lizards can be seen. Snorkeling and diving can be done all around the island, where amazing coral reefs and rich marine life can be spotted.

(5) Sipadan Island diving. Jacques Cousteau, the legendary French adventurer made the island famous among diving enthusiasts, through his documentary on the local marine life. The Sipadan Island offers one of the best and rarest diving experiences. The reef wall that drops 1000 to 2000 meters can be reached at just 20 meters over the reef, off the main beach. You can see schools of green and hawksbill turtles, barracudas, manta rays, eagle rays, hammerhead sharks, whale sharks and 3000 more species of fish. There's also an underwater limestone cave with tunnels and chambers, which hosts a turtle tomb as well. The abundance and diversity of the marine life makes Sipadan Island diving one of the top 10 diving experiences.

(6) Best time to visit. Pulau Sipadan is blessed with a unique climate, with the sun shining brightly all year long and temperatures ranging from 21°C to 31°C with the humidity about 90%. The rainy season is generally from November to February. Diving can be done all year round while the high-season is from July to August.

Keeping in mind that all resorts on the Sipadan Island have been closed down to preserve the amazing marine life the fact that there are only 120 dive permits offered per day, you may want to consider booking your trip well in advance.
