The Joji Ilagan Foundation is recognized for developing the finest training and educational resources geared to meet the rapidly growing manpower needs and demands of industry with special focus in tourism and hospitality courses; contact center (call center agents) training programs; welding and metal arc fabrication and health and home management courses and pre school education

In line with its efforts to highlight and recognize their students' exceptional talents, the Joji Ilagan Career Center Foundation Inc. is organizing an event that is held once every two (2) years.

"This event which started in 2006 provides an exciting opportunity for our students to demonstrate their exceptional skills in their specific area of study through competitions and demonstrations," JIB Foundation Chair Joji Ilagan Bian said.

A very interesting feature of this year's event is the five learning tracks covering areas of culinary and hospitality to be presented by renowned chefs invited by the Institute of Culinary and Hospitality Entrepreneurship (ICHEF), the premier culinary school in Mindanao.  The students of ICHEF will also be presenting a culinary showcase of dishes for Christmas.

The JIB College of Business and Tourism will highlight the event with a demonstration of their students' creativity and skill in cocktail mixing, napkin folding, fruit and vegetable carving.  Through an alliance with the Australian Trade College North Brisbane, students of this institution are provided world-class training which is expected to open doors for international employment.

JIB e-Academy and Solutions will be holding a Free Basic English Training (FBEST) at the site to refresh and review interested participants on basic grammar and correct pronunciation.  Career guidance services will also be provided to those seeking entry into the call center industry.

New technological breakthroughs in welding procedures and machineries will be showcased by the JIB Welding Academy.  Profile for their exhibit includes welding equipment, basic welding materials, safety devices, welding literature and publications.

Never before has Philippine labor had such negotiating power. Call center recruits are now being offered signing bonuses before they start work. Employees are given bonuses for finding new recruits - more often than not poached from other call centers.


The explosive growth of business process outsourcing (BPO) has plugged the economy of the Philippines into the global services industry, raising high new hopes about the country's economic prospects. Just 10 years ago, economic analysts and pundits concurred that the future of the predominantly agrarian economy lay in exporting fruit, seafood, garments, low-end electronics, and people – due primarily to cheap labor in the Philippines.


Nowadays, Filipino workers are increasingly doing the information technology enabled services (ITES) once held by middle-income-earning Americans, landing jobs in everything from accounting, payroll processing, credit-card administration, revenue management, database management, supply-chain management, and business intelligence to long-distance warehouse and inventory management.


In the first four months of this year, about 14 more companies are coming in, two of them call centers, and the rest back-office processing. That's a good sign because clients don't really need very, very good English speakers, but rather individuals with technical backgrounds and good written English, which the Philippines has an adequate supply of.


That is exactly how big multinational companies view the situation, particularly as other global English-speaking countries vie for a share of outsourcing contracts. As the Philippines reaches ever-deeper into its pool of semi-skilled labor - hype or no hype - the viability of its fastest-growing industry is still very much optimistic.


Graduates and even undergraduates who pass the preliminary exams undergo a six-day English skills training and product training for three weeks. After which the agent trainee will be placed on the floor to attend to mock calls for assessment. Agents are supposed to be able to type at least 25 words per minute.


Though foreign companies enjoy cheap labor in the Philippines, Filipinos also enjoy their salaries in the BPO sector compared to lower pay in other Filipino-owned companies. In ICT Philippines, a call center that operates in the Philippines, agents enjoy a monthly P2,500 food and transportation allowance and a performance appraisal bonus amounting to P4,000. Often, they are also offered spiffs like appliances, cellular phone loads and gift checks to boost the sales per hour capacity of the employees. For example, whoever first gets five sales per hour for the night wins a prize. And an agent who hits the target quota sales gets an additional P11,500 commission plus a 30-50 percent night differential. All in all, a well-performing agent gets a gross monthly income of more than P31,000. This, as opposed to the P8,000 entry level salary generally offered in other sectors.

Please try PORTOFINO Resort in Angasil, Mactan. It's a few minutes drive from the airport and has nice accommodations and not to mention the gentle sloping beach. You pay there per room, not per person. Cheapest room is P2,600 and the most expensive is P3,500. I was there yesterday. Try calling their Operations Manager at +639176257294.

Know of not too expensive, clean, comfortable accommodations in El Nido Palawan?

There are "2 areas" to go to in Palawan.

The first and the obvious is via Puerto Princessa. This you can access via PAL or Super Ferry. From Puero Princessa, you can already go to numerous places: crocodile farm, the St. Paul Underground River, island hopping at Honda Bay, the former Vietnames refugee camp, then southward is a totally different trip like visiting the Tabon Caves, etc...

The other area has to be accessed differently bec. it is at the northernmost tip of Palawan, the Calamian Group of Islands. (check out a Philippine map--it's quite distant from Puerto Princessa)
AIR PHILIPPINES travels to Coron (Island in Calamian). But Calamian is cheapest to access via SuperFerry (leaves Manila pier Friday afternoon, you get there Saturday about 7am).If you take Superferry, be sure to be awake by around 6am to see the splendor of the limestone cliffs that becons. We had a grand weekend (2days) coming home Monday afternoon, I think this is cheapest from Manila. Same ship will sail to Puerto Princessa and it takes another 8hours or so.Come Sunday afternoon, this same ship sails back to Manila...
In the Calamianes, probably due to the geography of the group of islands, there's a weather phenomenon, some sort of a "squall" (quick rainpour then stop, leaving a quiet mist-filled surrounding). We experienced this and it was amazing.
In Busuanga, DIVE LINK RESORT is excellent. Limestone formations, pristine (as in) beaches, superb dive sites. The cleanest lake in the country is in Calamian. There is also a hotspring right in the middle of the water between the limestone cliffs. And another one tha't like a swimming pool in a shore somewhere. This area is "not accessible" from Puerto Princessa in the sense that it is quite distant w/ mountains and rough roads and it is an altogether different area.
In Popototan Island, the farthest island westward (of Palawan and the Philippines) is where Coral Bay Resort is.
A number of resort owners there are Europeans. One owner once told me his story, pretty much like the Bible's "parable of the lost treasure"-- he visited Palawan (Calamian), saw the beauty of the place, went back home, SOLD HIS BELONGINGS and went back to Palawan and bought a beachfront where he now runs his dive site.
The waters in the Calamianes are calm. just calm. excellent to island hop and even do watersports.
