Family Holidays in the Philippines
Family Holidays in the Philippines - A Tropical Adventure
Taking Holidays in the Philippines is sure to excite any member of your family. Looking for something completely different and out of the ordinary, but at the same time, a destination where you are sure to feel safe and secure with your family?
You definitely should take a closer look at the Philippines!
Holidays in the Philippines - Gateway to Your Tropical Retreat
Getting to the Philippines is 'very easy'. There are a wide variety of airlines offering flights to 'Manila'. As well, there are a few airlines now introducing flights to 'Cebu'. This is the Philippines most Southern International Airport. There are at least eight major airlines that regularly fly in and out of the Philippines.
Since the flight from North America into the Philippines can be 'extremely long', you should consider spending a night or two in Manila before continuing your travel to your selected destination.
Manila - The Perfect Stop Over City
This City makes for a great stop over both before and upon returning home from your family vacation. Manila is filled with great venues for music, dancing, and ocean front dining.
A few of the best selections for a Hotel while staying in Manila, Philippines would include:
Diamond Hotel Philippines
Hyatt Hotel and Casino Manila
Hotel H2O - An amazing five-star hotel overlooking Manila Bay.
Manila Hotel
Once you have set foot in any of these luxury hotels, you may find it difficult to leave to start the next leg of your trip. Have no fear it is going to get even better!
Boracay Island - The Tropical Paradise of the Philippines
One destination you should consider for your family holidays in the Philippines is Boracay Island. This island resort is located on a small island just off of Iloilo, located to the south of Manila and the large island of Luzon. The easiest and most convenient way to reach Boracay is with a short airplane flight. You can fly from Manila to Kalibo. Flights take about 45 minutes, followed by a 90 minute car ride, and a short 10 minute boat ride.
The other option is to fly in to Caticlan, the flight time is the same, but you will only be 20 minutes away from Boracay Island. You will have a 10 minute car ride plus a 10 minute boat ride.
There are presently two airlines to choose from:
1. SeAir
2. Asian Spirit Air Lines
The real fun begins once you arrive on this 'beautiful island' and that the whole family is sure to love! On this fabulous island, there are numerous hotels, bungalows, cottages and even full-sized vacation homes available.
Beautiful Resorts on Boracay Island
It is highly recommended you make a reservation before arriving. A few of the premier locations on Boracay Island include:

Great Resort Destinations - All Around the Philippines
The excitement and fun is not isolated to just Manila and Boracay Island. You can find great family resorts all throughout the Philippines. Check with your local travel agent or online for more information on the Philippines.
Travel Requirements for Your Holidays in the Philippines
There are a few great advantages to enjoying your holidays in the Philippines. One of these advantages is language. Many tropical destinations, especially in Asia, are not in countries where English is considered a requirement in the schools. Most Filipinos understand English very well, with a high percentage of the population being very fluent in English.
For an American or Canadian, traveling to the Philippines is very easy. You receive an automatic 21 day tourist visa by simply presenting your passport. If you intend to stay longer you can pay a small fee for a visa extension. There are no extra travel documents required for your holiday stay in the Philippines.
The final advantage is the price!
You will discover the cost of services and many items to be 'very low' compared to other tropical destinations. Prices at some luxury resorts will be comparable to other international destinations, but as you head out to enjoy the Philippine culture you will uncover amazing bargains.
This is one holiday adventure you and your family will talk about for years! From all inclusive vacations to island hide a ways, the Philippines are sure to have something special to offer you and your family.
Family holidays to the Philippines are certainly worth a second look!
Happy travels!

AROUND MANILA
Around Manila
Luzon is the largest island in the philippines and has a lot to offer apart from Manila. The places noted here around Manila can all be visited as day trips from the capital although a number are worthy of overnight stops, or can be combined with visits to places further afield. The attractions around Manila include Mt Pinatubo to the north of Manila and the WW II battle site of Conegidor at the entrance to Manila Bay. South of Manila prime attractions include beach resorts the Pagsanjan rapids and the Taal Lake volcano.
These can be visited en route to South Luzon or to the island of Mindoro.
OLONGAPO & SUBIC
North-west of Manila, on the Bataan peninsula, Olongapo used to be where the US Navy was stationed. In l99l the Philippine Senate made the decision not to extend theagreement which had
regulated the lease of the base since the end of WW II.
From Olongapo you can easily do a day trip to Mt Samat on the Bataan Peninsula and Olongapo is a good starting point for trips to the Mt Pinatubo area or along the Zambales coastline. There are also some so-so beaches around Subic, but San Miguel, slightly north of Subic Bav, is better
than any of the beaches between Olongapo
and Subic.
CORREGIDOR
This small island, at the mouth of Manila Bay was the US-Filipino last stand after the Japanese invaded. It certainly wasn't as impregnable as planned but it did hold out for a long time. It is now a national shrine and you can have a look around the underground bunkers and inspect the rusty relics of the fortress armaments.
LAS PINAS
On the way to Lake Taal many people stop at Las Pinas to see the Sarao Jeepney Factory and a small church, famous for its pipe organ which has over 800 bamboo pipes' It was originally built between 1816 and 1824 and after a restoration in Germany in the early '70s, it still sounds good. On normal weekdays the organ can only be seen from 2 to 4pm.
TAGAYTAY (Taal Volcano)
The volcanic lake of Taal makes a pleasant excursion from Manila. There's a lake in the cone of the Taal volcano from which emerges a smaller volcano, inside of which is another lake. The view from Tagaytay Ridge is pretty incredible. You can climb the volcano and to the
island there are plenty of boats to charter
Talisay is easily reached tiom Batangas or Pagsanjan. It's also possible, but less convenient, to take a jeepney from Tagaytay to the lake and a boat across from there' San Nicolas and Subic are other departure points for lake excursions.
Buco, about five km west of Talisay, has an old seismological station now operated as a Science House where you can find out about vulcanology and the geological
history of the lake.
BATANGAS
Batangas can make a good base for visiting Lake Taal, Los Baflos and sites along the coast, but the main reason for coming here is to take the ferry service across to the island of Mindoro.

Banaue and the Cordillera Central
Banaue and the Cordillera Central
Philippines' tourist brochures mostly focus on the incredible beauty of many of the country's 7000 or so tropical islands. The other huge selling point of this former US colony. English is the defacto national language and most Filipinos speak it very well.
Then at the other end of the rainbow, not usually mentioned in the brochure, are the many girly bars inhabited by touts selling fake erection drugs, the services of women and hugely overpriced "scotch". Signs directing guests to leave their guns at the door should serve as a warning, although these can also be seen outside popular family restaurants guarded by security officers.
In between these opposites, the Philippines has something else.
The remote parts of Luzon, the largest of the philippine islands, is to be found on the road less travelled - the one leading northeast out of the capital.
This route takes you into the area known as Cordillera Central, away from the wet-season smells, smog and humidity and to the fresh air of the cool mountain provinces.
Freeways gradually become winding mountain roads rougher and more nerving the higher you go, until they turn to dirt tracks with sheer drops of 500m down each side.
At the very top of the Philippines' highway system, about 2000m above sea level, in the small
mountain tourist towns like Sagada where they conceal their dead in hanging
caskets on the hillsides and there's just one dirt road in and out and it's pretty cold at night.
Palms change to pines planted in the early 20th Century by gold fossickers and homesick American colonisers seeking something more familiar than tropical lowland, headhunting natives and the thousands of hectares of paddy fields.
Unlike the Spanish who occupied the country before them, the Americans went into the deep, dark heart of what, must be one of the Planet's more bizarre quirks of geography.
Travel here is rough and accommodation rougher, and something bizarre always happens winding up the road on the way to Banaue – and the ancient rice terraces Filipinos proudly call the eighth wonder of the world - stops for a break and have a lookout at the spectacular view down the valley.

Malapascua Tropical Island & Dive Spot
If grey sand, and simple green-blue water is what you're craving for, then what the Malapascua island has to post is up for your taking.
It was on Christmas day when the Spaniards attained the island. According to townfolks, it was guessed to be a special day for celebration but unfortunately a storm hit the island and so came the name "MALAPASCUA", MALAS SA PASKO, which means "Unfortunate Christmas" in English.
Situated eight kilometers off the north coast of Cebu, the Malapascua Island boasts its shimmering long grey sand beaches and panoramic rocky coastlines. Malapascua is pretty small and covers less than 4 square kilometers causing it enjoyable to ride a banca for a trip around the Malapascua island, go diving at the wreck of a World War II sunken Japanese ship, go snorkelling surrounded by the fishes, or to simply just recently take a dip in the crystal basic water. After your water adventures, a stroll around Malapascua gives you the opportunity to meet the friendly locals. You may also take a hike to the famous lighthouse for the spectacular view of Malapascua island, the deep blue ocean and watch the beautiful sunset over the horizon.
To make your stay even more comfortable in Malapascua, small inns along the beach are available at reasonable rates. You can also check out their dive shops, souvenir shops and bars & restaurants.
So if you just want to get away and unwind for the weekend with your friends and family, pack-up and go on the three-hour bus ride from Cebu to Maya and a 45-minute banca ride to Malapascua.
You will never be sorry ... Malapascua i an have basically worth remembering.

Philippines A Brief History Part 1
A BRIEF HISTORY
Part 1
The Philippines is unique among the countries of South-East Asia, both for the variety of its colonisers and for its energetic attempts to cast off the colonial yoke. The Filipinos are a Malay people, closely related to the people of Indonesia and Malaysia. Little is known about their precolonial society, as the Spaniards - who ruled the country for over 300 years - energetically eradicated every trace of what they felt was 'pagan' in the culture.
Ferdinand Magellan, a Portuguese who had switched sides to arch-rival Spain, set off from Europe in 1519, with instructions to sail around the world, claim anything worth claiming for Spain and to bring back some spices (a very valuable commodity in Europe). Finding a way around the southern
tip of South America took nearly a year but, finally, the small fleet (two of the original four ships) reached the Philippines in 1521.
At the island of Cebu, Magellan claimed the lot for Spain and managed to make a few Christian conversions to boot. Unfortunately, he then decided to display Spanish military might to his newly converted flock by dealing with an unruly tribe on the nearby island of Mactan. Chief Lapu-Lapu managed to kill Magellan. The Cebuanos decided their visitors were not so special after all and the
survivors scuttled back to Spain, after collecting a cargo of spices on the way. They arrived in the sole remaining ship in 1522.
The Philippines, named after King Philip II of Spain, was more or less left alone from then until 1565 when Miguel de Legaspi stormed the then hostile island of Cebu and made the first permanent Spanish settlement. In 1571, Spanish HQ was moved to Manila and from here Spain gradually took control of the entire region - or more correctly converted the region, since Spanish
colonial rule was very much tied up with taking the cross to the heathen.
The Spanish were far from alone in the area other European powers and the Japanese and Chinese also made forays into the Philippines and, throughout the Spanish period, the strongly Muslim regions of Mindanao and the Sulu Archipelago were neither converted nor conquered.

The World's Most Underrated Destinations
How popular a country is as a travel destination, has as much to do with image as it has to do with how interesting a place is to visit or how accessible or affordable it is. Some simply want to go somewhere because it looks nice while others are drawn to specific locations - whether it's Tuscany, India or Mauritius - as the image presented by these destinations fits their own personal aspirations. While popular tourist magnets, such as Australia or New Zealand, excel at self promotion, other equally deserving destinations fare less well in the image stakes; they may be a little of the beaten track, have suffered from poor leadership, or simply have failed to sufficiently promote their own attractions. Nevertheless, some of these less appreciated destinations have far more to offer curious independent travellers, than their more adeptly promoted rivals.
Here are some of the world's most underrated destinations:
Uzbekistan
The three great Silk Road cities of Samarkand, Bukhara and Khiva are architecturally outstanding, incredibly atmospheric and great value for money. Majestic mosques and medressas, and huge, ornately tiled minarets seem to reach for the bright blue sky from every other winding alley way. Apart from the members of up-market 'cultural' tours from France and Germany, hardly anybody seems to visit them. This situation has hardly been helped by the notoriously corrupt Karimov regime, which insists that visitors pay for a pointlessly expensive 'letter of introduction' before even being allowed to apply for an equally overpriced tourist visa. The government's tendency to massacre protestors and boil alive political opponents, can't have helped either. Despite the country's fearsome reputation, the people themselves are incredibly warm, friendly and welcoming. Even the once notoriously corrupt militsia are far more friendly and helpful than you might expect.
For a long time, Uzbekistan may have been well off the beaten track but it is now possible to fly into Tashkent, the capital, on Latvia's Air Baltic budget airline, from most major cities in Europe. It is also now relatively easy to obtain your letter of introduction and tourist visa through specialist travel agencies such as Stan Tours.
Taiwan
It doesn't occur to many people to visit Taiwan. It's a little bit off the Far Eastern backpacking trail, and it's certainly more expensive than Thailand or Indonesia, but it still has plenty to offer the independent traveller. The Portuguese sailors, who were the first Westerners to visit, named it Ilha Formosa (meaning 'beautiful island'). After visiting the spectacular Toroko Gorge National Park, you'll soon understand why. The gorgeous gorge is known for its towering marble cliffs, its rock hewn tunnels and the spectacularly snaking Liwu River. It can easily be visited on a day trip from Taipei but many prefer to base themselves outside of the relatively expensive capital city. Taipei, itself, is bright, lively and fun. As well as Taipei 101 (formerly the world's tallest building), it also known for its museums, markets and temple complexes. The atmospheric Lunshan Temple is particularly popular and still plays host to ancient Buddhist rituals. Taipei is also renowned for its varied and delicious street food; the Shilin Night Market is always busy and bustling and overflowing with strange new street food to sample such as pig's blood cake, deep fried stinky tofu and rubbery grilled quails eggs.
It used to be relatively costly to get to Taiwan but with the new generation of budget Asian airlines such as Air Asia and Cebu Pacific, and cheaper flights on Taiwan's own EVA Air, it is now more affordable than ever. It's also incredibly safe and easy to visit and Westerners don't even need a visa.
Tunisia
Tunisia has been a well established package tour destination for Europeans, for some time, but still receives relatively few independent travellers. This may partly be because Morocco and Egypt are cheaper, but Tunisia is still far better value than Western Europe and there's a lot to see in such a small country. The vast majority of tourists stick to the busy coastal resorts such as Hammamet, Sousse or Jerba, with only the occasional day trip inland, but Tunisia has far more to offer than simply sun and sand. As well as magnificent desert and mountain scenery, there are also ancient Roman ruins, rock hewn troglodyte villages, and lush oases and palmeraies set between desolate Saharan sand dunes.
The recent troubles have badly damaged the tourist industry but most (non government) reports seem to suggest that Tunisia is still a very safe country to travel in. It's possible to get great value flights through BA.com - especially if you're willing to book ahead and fly mid week - and once you are there, it's easy to make your own way around. Perhaps Tunisia's greatest strengths, however, are its close proximity to Europe, and the huge variety of experiences to be had with so little travelling time between its many attractions.
Georgia and Armenia
Few travellers ever think about visiting the Caucasus, and yet both Georgia and Armenia are crammed full of magnificent mountain scenery and the architectural remnants of millennia of civilisation. Both countries have somehow managed to retain their unique characters over thousands of years of history despite having been conquered at various times by Romans, Mongols, Persians and Ottoman Turks. The people of both Georgia and Armenia are renowned for their warmth and hospitality, and despite the many historical and political tensions that remain across the region, foreigners are almost always made to feel welcome. There still remains a strong Soviet feel within the region, and many within the more rural areas are still very poor, but the larger cities are rapidly modernizing as they struggle to catch up with the more affluent former Soviet nations on the edge of Western Europe.
Georgia and Armenia may be at the very edge of European civilisation but they are now more accessible than ever, and offer a taste of something genuinely different. Flights from the Latvian budget airline, Air Baltic, fly into Tbilisi and Yerevan from all over Europe (via Riga) and there is only a modest visa fee for Armenia (which is straight forward to buy on entry) and there's no visa fee at all for Western nationals in Georgia.
The Philippines
Like Taiwan, the Philippines are a little off the well worn backpacking trails around the rest of South-East Asia. It's a bit more expensive, and a little less safe, and it used to take a lot more effort and patience to make your around even a fraction of its 7000 islands. Many visitors are less than impressed with the bigger cities but what really makes the Philippines worth visiting, are its many natural wonder. As well as the stunningly beautiful rice terraces of Banaue, there are also numerous world class beaches, 37 volcanoes, the Chocolate Hills of Bohol, and the Underground River National Park in Palawan. If its wildlife you're into, then there's always swimming with whale sharks off of Donsol, the peculiar Tarsiers of Bohol, and some of the best diving in the world.
As with Taiwan, the rapid rise of budget airlines such as Cebu Pacific and Air Asia has now made travelling around the Philippines far more easy and affordable. You can now get cheap flights into either Manila or Cebu, from all over the Far East, and then get even cheaper flights around its many islands. If you research your trip well, and book up your flights in advance, then it is possible to experience an incredible variety of natural wonders within a disconcertingly short amount of time.

The Earth-Shattering Importance Of Cheap Office Supplies
Paper clips, manilla envelopes, sticky notes, pencils and pens -- no matter how highly technological the modern office may become, old fashioned office products remain an unchanging fact of working life. Among the most in demand items sold at retail and as bulk discounts deals, cheap office supplies are not the kind of items that provoke many daydreams. Nevertheless, they do fill an unusual niche in the modern imagination. In our post-modern world, so far removed from our hunter-gatherer roots, we cannot live without them.
The cult comedy hit, "Office Space," turned a red stapler and dysfunctional copiers into totems of contemporary life; innumerable scenes in the American and British versions of "The Office" demonstrate how the most ordinary office supplies can achieve a significance far beyond what most of us would imagine. Probably the most commonly stolen items next to hotel towels and bars of soap, office supplies hold an intriguing place in modern mythology because, as common and humdrum as they might seem, most of us cannot really work without them.
You don't miss your water until the well runs dry and you don't think about cushioned mailers, spiral binders, or name tag holders until you actually need them and can't find them. And that's when they become, just for a moment, the most important items in the world. Office managers the world over are only too aware of this reality, because the moment that last package of sticky notes is opened and and office-wide shortage threatens memories and communications, they are the ones who get the blame.
At the exact same time, the company's fiscal powers-that-be don't want to spend excessive amounts of cash purchasing and storing paper clips, three-ring binders, file folders, and correction fluid. It's a genuine dilemma: you have to have plenty of supplies on hand, but you can't bankrupt the company just to ensure you'll never run out. That's why, among all retail categories, there's probably no area where keeping prices reasonable -- or, let's say "dirt cheap" -- are of the greatest importance both to suppliers and retailers. That's why there really isn't much of a market for high end paper clips, elegant pencils, beautifully designed stainless steel scissors, or monogrammed file folders. Neiman-Marcus doesn't stock a whole lot of office supplies.
It's the art and the science of the office manager, and the home-bound freelancer, to manage just when and what quantities of office supplies to purchase. Get too many, and you're stumbling over boxes of envelopes and stapes at every turn -- and possibly wasting money and/or harming your office-wide reputation for thrift. Don't get enough and you put the operations of your office at risk and create potentially enormous anger among your coworkers. There's a reason why office managers are often either the most popular or unpopular people at many a corporate center.
Fortunately, it is a balance that, with a bit of effort, knowledge and foresight, competent workers can usually manage. It's just a matter of knowing where to purchase high quality cheap office supplies, when and in how much bulk. Deals and discounts are a huge part of it -- but managing just how much room you have to store those inexpensively purchased products is another part of the science of managing a business of any size. Office supplies aren't something that most people get excited about, but that's kind of the point. If you're thinking too much about them, something is obviously wrong.

If you are thinking of traveling to the Philippines, you should definitely be a little familiar with its main city capital called Manila. This is where you will most likely plan your flight arrival destination to end up at.
If you are an internet user and know how to search cheap flights then you can easily find cheap flights to manila. Flights to other local airport destinations may not be cheaper since manila is the main capital of the country. The prominent airport in the city is the Ninoy Aquino International Airport, all the major international flights land here at this major airport.
There is one also important international airport is there in this city and the one is the Cebu Mactan International Airport. This airport has been gaining international flights by now. At the time of this writing, they have 6 regular direct international flights. Taipei is the most lately additional trip to their list of planned flights, and is scheduled for at least twice a week. It maybe a little luxurious compared to a Manila flight, but if you have it in mind to go anywhere near Cebu area like Bohol or somewhere around the Visayas region, then it would be a fairly good alternative to take benefit at. Another international Airport would be in Davao which has 3 international daily scheduled flights, to Singapore, to Koror Palau, and to Manado Indonesia.
As we all know that airfares are normally the most expensive part of any travel and cheap flights to manila will stop you to invest huge amount of money in this. Hotel accommodation is also one of the most expensive part and we recommend you to visit the cheap flights to Manila. On the other hand, once you arrive in the country, most of the things you will find there have sufficiently cheap prices, like food, transportation, souvenir items, clothing stuffs, and other accessories you may want to buy, way much cheaper compared to buying the same things from other countries.

US Vet in Nbi Watch List in US Military Health Insurance Scam
A doctor and a US veteran are currently being held under the surveillance of Philippine authorities in connection with the scam that victimized an American military health insurance programme.
Lawyer Claro de Castro, chief of the National Bureau of Investigation's Interpol division, stated extradition cases are coursed through the Department of Justice (DOJ). He explained once the DOJ approves an extradition request a warrant of arrest will be issued and the NBI will serve it.
However, De Castro denied requests to reveal the identities of the two suspects so as not to jeopardize police operations.
In 2007, de Castro said a US veteran was extradited to the United States for his involvement in a scam that had been paid by TRICARE, the US Department of Defence’s worldwide healthcare programme for active duty and retired uniformed services members and their families, more than $100 million through fraudulent claims.
The scheme involved Philippine health providers, which were accused of getting kickbacks from false claims, inflated by as much as 2,000 percent, filed with TRICARE for medical services.
De Castro said the American veteran’s plea agreement with the US government was a bargain. The bargain consisted of the US government reduced the veteran’s pension after he admitted to overcharging his health claims by an estimated $35,000. The veteran had since returned to the Philipines.
Justice Secretary Raul Gonzalez, however, said his office has yet to receive an extradition request from Washington. ‘If there are people here and they have been indicted in the US and they ask us for extradition, we have no recourse but to comply because of the extradition treaty,’ Gonzalez said.
He anyhow maintained that the extradition proceedings might take particularly long, in particular if the accused questions the extradition request before the local courts.
Gonzalez added that he was not surprised when reports regarding the fraud came out, citing an incident in which a health provider operating in Subic, Angeles City and Bacolod was blacklisted due to fraudulent claims.
The justice chief said the health provider has overcharged and manipulated a patient’s medical records.
On April 22, 2008, the online edition of Marinas Variety reported that a Filipino doctor was arrested and charged with conspiracy, aiding and abetting, and filing of false claims in Wisconsin in connection with the kickbacks he purportedly got from TRICARE claims.
It was reported that Diogenese Dionisio would allegedly give the beneficiaries between 40 to 80 percent of the amount of the claim while the rest of the money would go to him and his clinic, CDMF Medical Clinic in Mandaluyong City. In 2006, a former American administrator of Philippine health provider, Health Visions Corporation, pleaded guilty to defrauding the TRICARE program. Thomas Arthur Lutz was charged with participating in a conspiracy with Health Visions and a physician in the Philippines to double bill TRICARE and kickback the inflated payments to the health provider.
On Thursday reports said a US judge ordered Health Visions to pay back the $100 million it swindled from TRICARE. An Associated Press report said Health Visions was ordered to liquidate all its assets within months and give the proceeds to the US government. On top of the $99.9 million in restitution, Crabb directed the company to forfeit an additional $910,000 and pay a $500,000 fine.
Under Crabb’s decision, the report said the Health Visions will be required to sell off land, office buildings and hospitals in the Philippines and an airplane and houses in the US. Meanwhile, Commissioner Eduardo Malinis of the Office of Insurance said Health Visions is not part of its roster of insurance companies.

Asian Beach Resorts
Port Dickson A Beach Resort Town
Port Dickson, on the west side of the Malaysian peninsula, is becoming one of the most popular destinations in the country for tourists. The city has some wonderful historical locations, but it also features pristine beaches and excellent accommodations for visitors. A mere one hour away from Kuala Lumpur, the capital of Malaysia, Port Dickson boasts a population of almost 90,000 and is a wonderful place for a relaxing holiday.
There are several other ways to get there besides car. A ferry operates a daily route between Port Dickson and Dumai, Sumatra. Bus service is available from several different points. And the yacht club has a dock that can accommodate sailboats, cruisers, and yachts.
For those interested in history, the area has several sites worth a visit. The Cape Rachardo lighthouse is one. It was built in the 1500's by Portugal and remains in operation. A climb up the narrow, twisting staircase garners a tremendous view across the Straits. An interesting side trip is a rock-encased footprint that local lore tells is the footprint of a warrior who lived during the 1400's.
There is an army camp nearby, and next to it is the Muzium Tentera Darat. Aircraft, vehicles, and other gear once used by the Royal Malaysian Army is on display there. Fort Kempas is another popular destination, containing the tomb of Ulama Sheikh Ahmad Makhtum from the 1400's. Next to the tomb are inscribed stones that are said to depict the struggles he faced on his road to victory. One enigmatic stone is said to be a lie detector of sorts. And moving on to Fort Raja Jumaat, visitors can find a display of old muzzle loaders that were once used by the garrison to defend the fort, and more can be seen in front of the police station. There is also a royal cemetery and historic palace foundations.
Water activities can be arranged by the Fort Dickson Hotel or any of the resorts. Canoe trips, skiing, and snorkeling are popular pastimes, and if sailing is desired, the Yacht Club offers temporary memberships.
{{{There are many excellent restaurants in the city. Some offer traditional Malaysian or Chinese food, but you can even find a Mexican restaurant in town. Most of the hotels also have dining rooms.
As befits an excellent tourist town, Port Dickson has many fine restaurants. Seafood, along with Chinese and Malaysian food, are popular, but the city also boasts an outstanding Mexican restaurant. Some of the hotels and resorts have their own dining rooms.
Restaurants featuring western style cooking can be found, and there is even one specializing in Mexican food. Traditional Asian food is also popular, as is seafood. In addition, many resorts offer restaurants or dining rooms.
A Saturday night market near the center of town offers a unique shopping experience. Fish and fresh produce is available, but you can also find such items as tee shirts and souvenirs.
The district was once famous for its production of tin and charcoal. However, past operations have not impacted the scenic beauty of the area. Beaches remain clean and lovely, and the jungle is still very much alive. More hotels and other types of facilities are currently being built, and there are some major projects planned that will further increase the popularity of Port Dickson as a tourist destination.
