I suggest, if you could stay in a motel, there are lots of it near cubao area. by the way motel in manila is not like in your country, there are bad connotation about motels in manila, just bear with it. it would be more cheaper than staying in a hotel. Cubao, is accessible to a lot of shopping malls in manila, you can just walk to Ali Mall, Star Mall, or a bus ride going to Megamall, Robinsons Place, Also a bus going to Baclaran Church. It is one of the well known catholic church in the philippines, even buddist monks and hindu goes there coz, the site was believe to have a strong positive energy.

Intramusros is one of the oldest city located in the heart on manila. you could visit fort santiago, old churches like San agustine and Manila Cathedral, museum and others.

August is part of rainy season, but it's also ok to go to Boracay, lower rate, and there are also some activities held this time. also few tourist are in.
