the desaparecidos (the disappeared ones) is the result of the military enforced abduction of militant progressive members of the community. we are very similar to what south and central america was decades ago.
Desaparecidos or vanished people occured in the history of the Philippines. Admittedly there are some human rights violations in the Philippines http://www.amnesty.org but none of serious concern to affect the tourism industry.
Cambodia and Vietnam had some of the worst human rights records, including high numbers of desaparecidos. However, in recent years, these countries are also emerging as top tourist destinations.
China, which has one of the worst human rights record, is a top tourist destination in Asia.
