Is Tiburon, Philippines a safe place to live?
My wife and I have a chance to buy property on the beach. We have a 2 year old daughter and wonder if it is a safe place to build a home and live.
We Have asked people we know here in Liloan and the stories come back anywhere from "Yes, it is a farm and resort area", to "No, militants and drug addicts are everywhere there".
We just want an honest answer, please.
This is Cebu, Philippines, no "Typhoons" here and as far as an engineer goes, there really isn't any need for one.
Actually, we prefer to build our own homes here for the most part.
I was wondering about the local population when I asked if it was safe here, as there are places around Cebu where outlaws live and Tiburon is a farming area with lots of places for criminals to hide, should they decide to do so.
I bet the people are great and safe, but is it a sound investment to build property so close to sea level with so many severe storms? Is it a protected area? What is the history of tidal surges during typhoons? Can you afford to engineer and construct a strong reinforced concrete structure that will withstand any pounding? Is flood insurance available? The quality of life on the coast anywhere is generally very nice (and safe) most of the time ......until there are 200 mph winds, 25 foot waves, and tidal surges that can move the largest boulders like toys. I grew up on a coast, but one mile inland, at an elevation of 50 feet. One reason resort property is expensive, is because they often must repair damage.
