Scuba Diving In Philippines

I'm going to Asia...need some tips/advice?

I'll be in Asia for 3 weeks...this question has a few parts:

1- I'm going to bangkok, ko samet, phuket, singapore, and the philippines (in that order)...what type of luggage should I bring? I was planning on bringing 1 large rolling/pull-along suitcase, but then I thought about just getting one of those huge North Face travel backpacks. What do you suggest? Keep in mind that I'm gonna be taking ferries, boats, planes, taxis, etc.

2- When I'm hanging out on the beach, where can I keep my camera/I.D./money safe (from water, sand, and thieves)? I want to keep it close to me, but then I also want the freedom of being able to go jump in the water for a few minutes, then come back to my towel and lay out, then go back into the water, etc. Also, if I go on any snorkeling/scuba diving excursions, where can I keep my stuff so that it stays safe (from thieves) and dry?

it depends on your size. If you are small enough take nothing but good shoes and two changes of clothes. All the clothes there are very very cheap. take toilet paper. Even buy your own backpack over there for cheap....we did. When it comes to looking after your items thats another story.. If you are traveling with some one take turns at looking after them.. leave them in your hotel if you have to.. Some places have little dry bags that can keep your things on you and dry on day tours..... Take as little as possible at all times..... HAve a great trip/

Where is the best diving site in the Philippines?

i'm currently in the Philippines but its hard to find where is the best diving site here, can u help me?

The dive sites close to Metro Manila are Subic, where you can view a sunken ship, and in Anilao, Batangas.

The best dive sites are Apo Island, just off Siquijor and Dumaguete in the Visayas, and the Tubattaha Reef in Palawan. The dive sites off Panglao Island in Bohol also attract divers.

I do not blog about dive sites, but I have featured Bohol, Subic and Siquijor/Dumaguete in my travel blog. You may want to read up to learn how to best go there:

Planning one month in philippines and want to rent a house in a nice beach area; How should I do it?

I want to spend next June or July in the Philippines, hopefully diving and windsurfing as well as partying at night. I want to rent out a house, close to a nice beach. I was thinking boracay, but not too sure what else is out there. I went to Cebu City last year, and absolutely loved it. I would like to be in an area that is more metropolitan, but also has a nice beach to spend the days on. Where would be the best place to go?

I can only recommend Cebu for you since you want to be in a place MORE metropolitan.

Boracay, while gorgeous, is on an island not close to a city
San Fernando, La Union Province has gorgeous beaches, but not exactly metropolitan.

Same thing for Puerto Galera, Mindoro Province, various resorts in Palawan Province. They all go out the window with your "more metropolitan" requirement.

The rule is, with the Philippines, the closer you get to a metropolitan city, the more pollution, noise, etc and less of the idyllic place you want.

The best thing I guess for you is to look up places in Batangas Province (Nasugbu, Anilao, Mabini) to stay for your diving and windsurfing; and rent a car since Manila and the Makati/Quezon City Nightlife is a 1-2 hour drive away.

Maybe you should also look at Subic Bay. There's Casinos, Nightclubs, and other things to do. It's a 2hr drive from Manila. But the beaches and diving are just "okay".

So the challenge is balancing the "paradise" with the "more metropolitan".

Where are the best snorkeling sites in the Visayas, Philippines?

My girl and I are going to be in the Philippines in July. We'll be contending with the rainy season, but we're hoping to do a lot of snorkeling (NOT scuba diving) when the sun comes out. Where are the best places to snorkel in the Visaya islands?

Apo Island, Moalboal Cebu, Bohol and many many more.

Mactan is not a good place to snorkel the water is very unhealthy.

Have you ever thought of doing SCUBA? You can take a short class called Resort Dive via PADI and do a simple safe dive in less than 5m of water.
