I live in the Philippines and I can tell you that the hotels here are just about the same as everywhere else in the world. All cities have low end places that cater to locals that may be traveling between the provinces. The bigger cities usually have luxury places similar to say Holiday Inn that cater to foreigners and wealthy Filipinos. The resort areas like Boracay have luxury resorts that would compare to any where like Hawaii, Cancun etc. The hotel industry has developed over time the same way as in America. Years ago there were lots of small basic places and over the years that has developed into a very sophisticated industry.
One thing that we do not have here is time share.
