Writ of Amparo, will it work in the current Political status of the Philippines?

The Supreme Court of the Philippine had just authorized the use of Writ of Amparo in cases of those alleged politically abducted person or extrajudicially killed Filipinos as their last resort since the Writ of Habeas Corpus did not work.
well, as explained, writ of amparo authorizes the holder thereof to inspect the premises of the military camp or detention place of the alleged abductors, unlike habeas corpus where it merely seeks the release of a detainee when no information had not yet been filed in the court of law. Its far more broader that habeas corpus...

As to Philippine Law, actually, so may laws had been legislated to protect every citizen's right... the constitution also provided so may protective laws to shield citizens from abuses from those in authority.

It doesn't go far enough to protect victims. It pertains to what happens AFTER a person has been tortured or forced to disappear. The Philippines need to make laws that better protect against these crimes BEFORE they happen.

Do Filipinos need a visa to visit Cuba?

For a 1 week or so visit to a resort.

Pretty much everybody will need a tourist card (tourist visa). If flying from Canada you get given them on the plane, I am told.

Houses and Condominiums of the Philippines

There are many popular types of Philippines properties for sale in the market today. According to many real estate experts, some of the most popular types of residential properties in sale today are condominiums and houses.

Though condominiums have greatly outpaced houses in terms of popularity, these typical houses are still known for its demands, which according to many real estate experts, would never be easily outpaced by any types of housing, even the popular condominium. So what made these types of housing popular in Philippine market?

Houses

According to many real estate experts, the reason why many Filipinos are still opting to buy a house rather than a condo unit is because of its affordability. This is also the reason why these types of Philippines properties for sale are still in-demand, because not all Filipinos can easily afford to buy a condo unit in business and commercial districts.

In addition to its affordability, houses are also known to offer a more suitable environment for a growing Filipino family. Compared to condominiums which are mostly found in the busiest districts of the Philippines, houses are mostly found in residential areas or in the suburbs which offers a more quiet and subtle environment for growing children.

New houses in the market

There have also been a number of new houses for sale in the Philippines today. Other than those found in residential areas, a number of these new houses are located outside Metro Manila, mostly in the outskirts.

The advantage of these new houses is with its location and its affordability, which is more affordable compared to other houses. However, its main advantage is its terms of payment. Other than paying in cash, Filipinos can pay in installment, which can be cheaper compared to renting an apartment.

Disadvantages

The main disadvantage of houses is that it can't provide the necessities in which many Filipinos are looking for, such as its accessibility to their workplaces as well as a luxurious living space. This is the reason why the condominiums steadily grew popular in the market.

Condominiums

Condominiums first became popular because of its location, which are mostly found in the heart of a business or commercial district, such as in Makati. Because of this, condominiums rapidly gained a lot of popularity among many Filipinos seeking a refuge in which they can gain a lot of advantage, particularly the accessibility to their workplaces as well as entertainment areas such as malls.

Although found in the busiest districts, these types of housing can still offer the privacy and peace that many people are looking for.

Other than its accessibility, condominiums are also known for its maintainability, which allows its residents to focus on maintaining their own units, while other facilities found in the condominium are maintained by hired personnel.

New condominiums in the Philippines

Condominium complexes are types of condominiums which are known to offer a different set of benefits. Compared to condominiums in business districts, these types of new Philippines properties for sale are mostly found in the outskirts or even in provincial areas. Part of what made it popular is because of its family-oriented environment compared to condominiums in the city.

In addition to its environment, condominium complexes are also known for its amenities including resort facilities such as swimming pools, gyms, recreational parks, and playgrounds in which residents can freely and exclusively enjoy.

Disadvantages

The main disadvantage of all types of condominiums is its expensiveness. Another disadvantage is that condominiums in the city are not suitable for a growing family, while condominium complexes may not be as advantageous compared in terms of accessibility.

Another major disadvantage is its condo fees. These fees are normally used for the maintenance of all facilities found in the condominium. According to many Filipinos, the many facilities found in the condominium, such as those found in condominium complexes, the bigger its condo fees. For more information visit to our site at http://www.avidaland.com

I have Spanish guest visiting Cebu and would like to feel "authentic Filipino way of living", any suggestions?

They are going to be here on January. I have to book them to a beach resort or an island where there are less tourist and great facade. Of course, the scenery must be beautiful. Please help me with where I should let them stay. Thanks.
How could La Luz be in Cebu, it is in Manila...
I do understand Plantation Bay is nice but it is too modern and expensive. Maybe somewhere cheaper and nothing much fancy. Just a simple leaving nearby the beach. plantation has too many tourists I guess.

Want the best place to book them for their first two nights in Cebu ? Plantation Bay in Mactan Islands, its the ultimate place , its Filipino owned and managed but International standard , the entrance to Plantation is already says alot about Filipino Hospitality , its not the usual square box hotel , you are ushered in the front desk and welcomed by the Cebuano , then upon entry to the lobby it reveals already what is in store for your stay. You're first sight is the open water , man made lake that opens up to a the real sea . Your accommodation surrounds this man made lake right up to your own veranda. You will be brought to your accommodation via a golf car . Your chalet has the best narra bed with Filipino carvings at its best . The callado embroidery in their linens are just heavenly and the bathroom decorated by capiz shells are just authentic Filipino . The room is big and ample for a family of six . It has two beds in different rooms of the suite. And all furnishings are Filipino but comfortable . Every morning you could have a leisurely walk to the real sea and play volleyball or jetski or just enjoy their spa.
Food covers the wide array of cuisine and its very near the famous SUTUKIL in Mactan Cebu (Sugba, Tula and Kilaw ) cuisine .

I still a home in Mactan near Plantation bay for I stayed there for 15 years now am in Manila and everytime I recommend Plantation bay to my Foreigner and Filipino friends Plantation bay , they just thank me much . Rates for a suite two bedroom is USD450.00/night . For a standard room like USD 170.00/per night . Go to plantationbay.com (or just key in Plantation bay , Cebu .

There are Shangrila , Hilton these are good hotel but foreign run and Bluewater Maribago also a resort hotel like Plantation Bay in Mactan , Cebuall like 20 minutes from the airport .

What would you do in this kind of Situation?

I have a Co-Worker who doesn't consider other peoples opinion but who likes to consider hers even if her opinions suck and are veiled with errors. I don't like her, she's so arrogant and she thinks that she knows everything and when it comes to our written reports, she always inspects what I've done and when she sees something that she doesn't like, she gets mad and then tries to change everything. I don't know what to do with this "Fucking Visayan Filipino LOSER", and plus she's really starting to get on my nerves, she thinks she's so smart but when it comes to VOCABULARY, her brain is as small as an ant, and not to mention if she doesn't have any clue about anything that's got something to do with the task, she always resort to my help, I hate people like her. So tell me, what would you do if you PRETTY MUCH encounter "ONE OF THE PHYSICAL EMBODIMENTS OF EVERYTHING THAT YOU LOATHE? What would you do in this kind of situation? Should I just listen to her stupid opinions and nod?

Never help her or give her any ideas. Ignore her complaints and suggestions. If you quit discussing things with her and stop defending yourself she will soon realize she should go blow her wind somewhere else. The extent of your interaction with her should be a "good morning" when necessary and the rest of the day don't even look at her. Don't show your work to her. Never help her or give her ideas.

Quezon City pride parade pushes for Anti-Discrimination in the Philippines

SIXTEEN years after the first Pride parade in Asia was launched in Manila,  progressive bills on gay rights, divorce, and birth control, feared by many politicians who count on  religious swing votes, seem to be making strides in Congress.

Around 5,000 lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transsexual citizens and their straight supporters and AIDS activists marched in the party district of Quezon City to highlight the joint observance of LGBT Pride and World AIDS Day on the afternoon 4 December 2010. It may be the first time a Philippine municipal government officially sponsored and bankrolled a gay pride event in this majority Catholic country.

The parade was the biggest yet in the country ever since a ragtag crowd of less than a hundred militants under the flag of ProGay (click on www.progay.multiply.com) and Metropolitan Community Church staged Asia's first LGBT Pride march in June 1994.  With the theme "One Love: Stop AIDS, Promote LGBT Human Rights, Keep the Promise," the parade was organized by Task Force Pride (TFP) and the Philippine AIDS Society. Quezon City Mayor Herbert Bautista and his vice mayor Joy Belmonte both sanctioned the parade and sent droves of their supporters into the sprawling Tomas Morato clubbing strip.

During the post-parade street party, Representative Teodoro Casiño of the leftist party Bayan Muna (People First) threw the crowd into a frenzy when he announced the filing of House Bill 1483 or the Anti-Discrimination Act of 2010. His proposed law defines discrimination on the basis of sexual orientation and gender identity, and will penalize discriminatory acts in housing, employment, the use of public spaces and the enrolment in schools. (Click on this link for House Bill 1483 http://www.congress.gov.ph/press/details.php?pressid=4694)

The political leadership of Quezon City is seen as a trailblazer in social reform. The city whose initial QC is also spelled out as Queer City in jest has already passed a city ordinance banning anti-LGBT discrimination in 2004, and a measure promoting a government-supported program of artificial birth control and reproductive health that covers HIV prevention in 2008, even as the neighboring city of Manila festered with unwanted pregnancies under a staunchly pro-life ex-mayor Lito Atienza.

Partygoers are also abandoning the bohemian haunts of the Malate gay district in favor of the pulsating night life of Cubao, Eastwood and North Triangle of Quezon City. Yet harassment of gay establishments is still a huge problem, as underpaid QC cops habitually resort to swooping down on gay saunas, cinemas and cruisy parks to extort the pink peso from their gay victims.

Many of ex-mayor Atienza's pro-life friends who railed against homosexuality and women's rights were drubbed in last year's congressional elections. However, Casiño said the work ahead for the Anti-Discrimination Bill is still fraught with difficulties, as the numbers of advocated in the House of Representatives remain in the minority.

Community groups such as the gay political party Ang LADLAD, Society of Transexual Women of the Philippines, Gabriela, Amnesty International, Rainbow Rights, UP Babaylan, Leap, and MCC Quezon City held aloft extra-large rainbow flags and placards calling for the end to discrimination. The parade saw a surprising strong show of force by gay clubs and comedy bars that usually showed little support in the past years.

A few bible-wielding religious counter-demonstrators tried to make their presence felt with anti-gay signs with messages like "God did not make you gay!" but they were definitely less numerous  and less acrimonious than last year's bully throng. Their signs were easily outnumbered and owned by funny signs from pride marchers that mocked the religious passages. Alternately, even the counter-demonstrators were smothered from the view of cameras by the fluffy gowns of drag queens.
