The Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) has recently launched their online appointment system website which is a do-it-yourself site where you can set an appointment for the renewal or application of your Philippine passport.

In the past years, Filipinos have been accustomed to processing their passport renewals and applications through travel agencies and other third-party companies who are authorized by the DFA. These companies and agencies profit by charging a processing fee. It was working like a well-oiled machine until the day when magnetic passports were introduced. This required a personal appearance for the applicant, whether it was for a Philippine passport renewal or a new application. Furthermore, actual image capturing is done on site.

As part of the DFA's effort to extend its services to Filipino citizens, they launched their official DFA Appointment System website for passport renewal and application. Within a few minutes, the applicant can choose a set date and time when he will go to the DFA to renew his passport or apply for a new one. The website also includes all the necessary information such as document requirements and other helpful hints related to the service being requested.

As applications for renewals piled up in the recent months, there have been an unusal number of bad experiences. These have been "expressed in ink" through personal blog posts in the world wide web. However, there is NO other way to get it done except through the DFA. As a Filipino you don't need a visa to enter Sg as a tourist. Usually at the port of entry you will be given either a 14 day Social Visit Pass or if you are lucky you may be given a 30 day SVP. It depends on the immigration officer. Wag ka nang pumunta sa agency dito dun na lang pag dating mo. Before your 14 or 30 SVP expires ... para di ka na bumalik sa Pinas magbus ka papuntang Malaysia (Johor Bahru) and stay there for half a day sabihin mo magtotour ka lang. Then pagbalik mo sa Sg they may give you another 14 or 30 SVP. Good luck!

My father comes from a beautiful island in the Philippines with white sand beaches, blue green waters and very friendly people. I personally love the place and spent memorable vacations there as a kid. Now, my father and the town mayor wants to know how he could promote the island to foreigners, especially to Americans, to attract more investors and tourists. There already is a growing number of tourists in the area and hotels and resorts near the beaches but the island needs more development and it would be nice to see foreign investors coming in and bring progress to the island, boosting more jobs for the people there. Just like how the Carribean is promoted to Americans as an ideal vacation spot. Any ideas where to start? Is there a government sector in the US where i could go to and propose my ideas?

The Caribbean islands are a lot closer to USA than the Philippine islands are. And for short-term vacations there is no way the Philippine islands can compete with the Caribbean islands for US tourists. It simply doesn't make sense for US tourists to pay a lot more money for travel and endure a grueling flight to the Philippines and back.

But the Philippine islands can compete with Malaysia and Thailand for US and European retirees who like to stay for months and even years in warm hospitable countries, where the cost of living is less than it is in USA and in Europe.

Malaysia offers a 10-year visa to retirees who have a certain amount of income and/or savings. And Thailand offers a 1-year renewable visa to retirees over 50 years of age, who have a certain amount of income and/or savings.

This is something the Philippine government can also do. And perhaps the mayor of your town should lobby the Philippine government to change visa rules and allow rich foreign retirees to stay on Philippine islands like the one where your father is from.

I was Filipino citizen but now I got a British passport.Do I still need a US Visa?

I was a Filipino Citizen but this week I received my british passport.I am for Holiday in US by November for 16 days only. Thompson agency told me that all british passport issued after october 25, 2005 will need a US Visa.
