Going to Manila, Philippines from Melbourne...where do we stay in Manila (beach resort)?
We recently bought some very cheap flights from Melbourne (Australia) to Manila (Philippines) in March next year...I have done some brief research and not sure if we should stay in Manila? We want to stay at a lovely beach resort like Bali and Patong Beach, Phuket where we have been before. Want to do some sight seeing, water sports and great cheap shopping at markets with restaurants. Not really interested in night life, ie: pubs, disco's etc.... If we dont stay in Manila how do we get from Manila to whereever ?? Thanks
I have been to both Bali in Indonesia and Patong in Phuket, Thailand.
Boracay in Aklan (Visayas) and Puerto Galera in Mindoro are the closest you will get to Bali. There are enough information on the net if you google about these 2 options. A third option will be Pagudpud, called the Boracay of the north. It has a beautiful coastline, white sand, decent accommodations, quite remote, and NOT famous for nightlife. I am doing a blog entry on Pagudpud, but I haven't finished writing about it. My photos are waiting to be posted on my blog - - when I finally find the time to write. As for Phuket-type places, check out Dumaguete N egros Occidental. I actually called Dumaguete as the Phuket of the Philippines in my blog.

A simpler and smaller version will be Baler in Aurora province in Luzon. Baler was where the hit movie Apocalypse Now was shot. It is also in my blog.

We have so many fantastic beach options in our 7,100 islands. There are more options in my blog, so you may want to review then all for you to better decide on your beach destination. For all you know, you may like the other places more than Bali or Phuket.
Top destinations are Camiguin and Bohol. You may want to read up on these places, too.
