what are some other great places to stay in the philippines besides davao?
I went to Davao last august and had the best trip ever, I am going to come back in a couple months but was wondering where else I should look and why? I thought about Manila, Cebu, Palawan, Boracay, and Bohol, but are there any other hidden gems that I wont get caught up in the tourism, I really liked that most about Davao, I never ran into another American the whole trip and really got a good feel for filipino culture and would like to do that again. Thanks in advance.
I'm guessing you'd prefer the hotter parts of the country (as opposed to the colder ones, like up in the mountains) so I suggest El Nido, Palawan. I remember when I was younger my parents took me there. We stayed in a resort called Miniloc Island Resort. It's situated in this large beautiful island cove surrounded by a cliff where, at times, you'll see monkeys roaming around. They're safe, just don't feed them. The beach front is safe too as they keep it netted. You also have access to kayaks which you can use to explore the other coves near the area. Just be careful. I remember we also had lunch one afternoon in a nearby island away from the resort, which was just amazing (there's just something about eating by the beach after a nice swim). It was one of the best places I had ever been to. It's a getaway type of place, so if you'd rather be closer to land, you can try Bohol. One of the better beaches there is in Panglao. But it's more touristy and might be a bit more expensive. If it is, then you can look around in other beaches. There you can tour the island, see the "jewel of the Philippines," the Chocolate Hills, have a lunch cruise along the river and see their famous tarsier. And while there, go and visit the famous Bohol Bee Farm and have lunch or dinner there. As a matter of fact, why not spend a night there too. That place is amazing. When I first came there, I thought it was a resort that came straight out of Discovery Travel and Living. They grow their own vegetables so everything's organic. I think Bohol would be a fun place to visit if you've never been there.
There are a bunch of other places you can see, like Vigan, where you can see the old Spanish town; or Batanes, which many have said to be like a whole different place apart from the Philippines. As for Manila, it's just too busy and too metropolitan. I doubt you'd enjoy it as much unless you'd want to explore the city. Boracay too is way too touristy already. You're better off going to the beaches I suggested.
Now if you're on a budget you can try looking at Virtual Tourist. It's a website that uses other tourists' personal info on places they've been to and stayed at. You can find everything there too actually. You can also google images the places just to see what's in store for you. I hope this helps. Enjoy!
PS
I've put down some websites under sources that might help you with your decision making.
