Philippine Airlines - 60 Years of Excellence and Triumph

Formed during the second world war, Philippine Airlines (known affectionately as PAL) has been through quite a lot. PAL was very helpful to the United States during that war with a variety of air duties. Like it's home country, this airline epitomizes strength and character. Since the turn of the century, Philippine Airlines has gone through some hard times, including receivership. Thankfully that is over with and they have freed themselves of the legal status and moved on to grow and see better days.

Philippine Airlines has enjoyed quite a few interesting events during the 2010 year. The airlines received Boeing 777-300ER (Extended Range) earlier in the year (January), and that makes number two for the world's most advanced airliner in their fleet. To add to their already impressive number of international destinations, in March they announced more flights bringing the total to 26 flights abroad. To make things even better for their customers, in November they put their new advanced seat selection system into service. This new service provides a unique and highly convenient process for seat selection for those who book tickets online. Philippine Airlines (PAL) is Asia's oldest commercial airline that still exists under their original company name. Ninoy Aquino International Airport in Manila is the central hub for the airline. You can find the other major hub for PAL on the Philippine island of Cebu at the Mactan-Cebu International Airport of Cebu City. You can fly to fifty different places both in the Philippines and out of it with PAL. There is no other airline with the history that this airline has. PAL was created during the beginning of the second world war which, if you think about the challenges they had to fight over, makes it amazing that they succeeded.

The SportsPlus plan is the latest incarnation of The Flying Sportsman program. Extra luggage space is allotted for sports equipment through this multi-tiered subscription program. All PAL flights offer this accommodation. Sports that require larger pieces of equipment like scuba diving and golfing are the reason for this program. Members of the Mabuhay Miles program are currently the only ones who can make use of this additional service.

In the 60 plus years Philippine Airlines has operated, they have weathered many storms. This is even more amazing when you realize that they started out in 1941 with only one small Beechcraft airplane. Life seems to be reflected in many ways in this not altogether sad story. They did not give up regardless of what was happening to them and around them. Nothing is quite as bad as a world war and they were able to survive that intact.
